well, I'm come from Indonesia too..
that's great!!
I'm sick of Korean influence in Indonesia...
It's looks like I'm very odd, just because I never know about a single band from Korea...
But, if Japan can make a great influence in Indonesian Music... That's very great... LOL

By the way... when will the audition takes place and time?
and what are the procedures? can anyone tell me?
thanks ^^v

Well, if I were to have a fatwa... sorry, I spaced out there for a second on "cute li'l exposed tushies!" and I lost my train of thought. Wait... nope. It's gone. ;3

I presume JKT stands for Jakarta?

Personally, I think Girls Gen. is hotter., but I wouldn't kick AKB48 out of bed for eating chips.

To think that this news even manage to appear in my ANN newsfeed, I'm shocked. Yes, its all Korean music that's hip in my country nowadays but I myself didn't care much about idols. But at least this one is "official". You wouldn't want to know how many copy cat boy/girlband here (though most of it are copying korean girl/boyband)

JKT stands for Jakarta of course, all the big event are usually held there. The audition has already closed, I think, since I remember reading one of my friend's post in FB, a cosplayer, that she already went to the audition few days ago (I live in different city far from the capital).

Ok, I've got to ask: what is the difference, language aside, between Korean girl groups and Japanese girl groups?

To my untrained eye they appear similar in composition. Lots of cute/hot girls? Check. Lip synching to choreographed dances? Check. Get payed a pitance compared to the 10's to 100's of millions there handlers, managers, labels and talent agencies make? Check. Glossy, high-style, high-concept overproduced music videos? Check. Pimped out by said agencies to the rich and powerful men of Asia? (sadly) Most likely check.

While not American, we've already had our all-female super group -The Spice Girls- back in the 90's. And given the cyclical nature of musical taste and entertainment it will probably be a decade or two before we see another craze like N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, and Spice Girls hit big in the West.

Style. As a huge generalization:

Japanese groups:
- More of a focus on cuteness.
- Sing cheesier-sounding yet typically very generic songs--for instance, there's a lot of that ridiculous "boing!" sound effect in Japanese idol songs than in Korean ones. However, they cover an array of genres, from generic R&B to generic hip hop to generic enka to generic traditional Indian-sounding-whatever, all sung in an excessively cutesy style.
- Wear ridiculous childlike and often foofy outfits, nothing any reasonable teenager (or at least anyone who doesn't live in Japanese tourism magazines) would wear.
- Greater percentages of the group sing in childish voices.
- Possibly lower budget videos?

Korean groups:
- More of a focus on coolness.
- Sing poppier-sounding yet typically very generic songs--there is virtually no rock music or anything that even approaches rock music to speak of. Lots more autotune than a Japanese group. Never really goes outside of R&B, hip hop, and synthpop.
- Wear more street looking clothes one could possibly actually buy at a store outside of Harajuku (or some sort of Akihabara lolicon cosplay store or something...) or whatever.
- Greater percentages of mature songs, each group is more likely to have a rapper among them.

The girls are actually about the same age range but:

J-pop - emphasis on "young-ness" in baby-cute looks, style, sound, song lyrics, choreography, etc.

K-pop - emphasis on "budding youth-to-woman" rite of passage on same.

Ah, I see... K-Pop certainly has the edge on sexy & provocative, it appears, especially when juxtaposed with J-pop's blinding "cuteness" (which looks more like a caricature or infatalism when compared side-by-side).

Personally, I never understood the Japanese attraction towards "cuteness," let alone any sort of sexual attraction. I mean, just think about it. Puppies and kittens are cute--ok, bad imagery, but you get my point. Sexy is sexy.

Faced with this evidence, I'd say K-pop is the hotness.
