I have the Blu-ray (first printing with artbook), and the Pioneer collectors edition. And I hate this movie. But I feel an urge to have it because it's a classic...

Who would want to watch Akira in anything but HD these days. Now if they announce a Blu-ray with the streamline dub on it they would have my attention.

Those of us who aren't fortunate enough to afford a PS3 or Blu Ray player.

I've been searching high and low for a copy of the first pressing(the LE) of the blu-ray release, since I got a BD player a few weeks ago. No such luck. Confused

You can get a Blu-ray player for under $100 these days...they aren't that expensive...

Here then: http://www.rightstuf.com/i/pd12145

No reason to buy this re-release unless as mentioned before, they somehow add the Streamline dub as a 3rd audio option.

Seems like maybe the DVD was OOP, or getting close to it so now it's back in print again. Given that Rightstuf has so few copies that they report the numbers. But any re-issue sure as hell won't cost $12, so buy that DVD now while you can.

Yea, no. I have this DVD and there is no 3rd Audio option. There is only the New Dub in 5.1 and the Japanese in Dolby.

I actually prefer to watch this DVD over my Blu-ray because of two reasons.
1. They actually have a subtitle track and not a dubtile track like they had on the Blu-ray .
2. I like having the "Capsule" option that translates the graffiti that's in the film that makes a difference in understanding the story.

I want Bandai to re-issue the Blu-ray to fix these issues and it would be icing on the cake if they added the streamline dub.

I was actually talking about Bandai's new release that's not worth buying.

Yeah, that's pretty much why i'm keeping my Special Edition DVDs myself but also because of the second disc that it came with as it contained more extras than the Blu-ray has.

I've already got the Geneon DVD and the BD. I might actually buy another copy of the DVD (or ideally the BD) if it had the old dub which I've always kinda wanted to check out. Better subtitles wouldn't hurt either although I can't see buying a DVD copy just for that. Maybe if they did a BD but otherwise no.

Still, it's good to see an old classic re-released.

I just wish they'd stop being so vague. A new Akira DVD release, so what? I got it on blu-ray, why should I go back to DVD? Is it gonna have deleted scenes? Is it gonna have more extras such VA interviews or production staff interviews? The old dub? Seriously, Bandai has a knack for giving us the news without TELLING us the news.
