Wow. Thanks very much for the detailed update. I'd known that there'd be significant surgery involved, but I had no idea it would be this extensive. Saiyuki was the first series I ever imported, and it completely hooked me on her art and storytelling style. While I hope she's able to resume her work at some point in the future, I'd be content with what she's accomplished - what's important is that she recovers her health, and the reconstruction efforts result in good quality of life.

She really has been going through a lot for a very long time. And she is so young too - only 35. Saiyuki was one of my first loves and while I would love to see the boys finally complete their journey, all I wish right now is for Mikekura's health and happiness.

I imagine she has a lot of reconstructive surgeries to look forward to. Ouch. I hope she has a good surgeon, and I wish her the best.

Thanks for spreading the word on Minekura-sensei's condition, and for linking to the cranes4Minekura LJ comm -- I'm the chief origami-wrangler there. Just to keep the record clear, though, I'd like to note that we are not the first or only people who've been sending paper cranes to wish her well: in her 10/15 blog entry, she mentioned receiving two earlier senbazuru. I'd imagine those first two were probably from friends and family and/or fans in Japan, since they got to her so quickly after the first announcement of her hiatus and upcoming surgery. It breaks my heart to hear of all the painful challenges she has been facing, but I'm thrilled to see she's been getting so much support in this difficult time, and that she's feeling some encouragement from all these well-wishes from around the world.
If any readers here would like to send their own get-well wishes to Minekura-sensei, you can write to her via her publisher:

The LJ cranes project community is also going to remain active throughout 2011 to continue to send Minekura-sensei periodic themed care packages, so please drop by and visit us if you'd also like to participate in future collective shows of fan support. (Everyone is welcome, you don't need to have a LiveJournal account in order to participate.)
