That'd be lovely. Admittedly there are a few unlicensed series that I want to read, but maybe they will be licensed by the time I actually get to them. Not really one of those I WANT IT AND I WANT IT NOW types.

Maybe if the DOJ wins this lawsuit, these scan sites will actually remove the scans from manga chapters that have been published over here already.

To do that, the sites would actually need to know which books are scans in the first place. That's not totally the answer, though. The scan sites would need to take a similar stance to that of Anime Suki, which is to not include any files/links to content that has been licensed.

While that will always be the dream, the reality is probably closer to the fact that the site in question was posting up American comics, so DC and Marvel probably have a little more influence than Viz or Tokyopop. But they still need a conviction against this guy so the owners of sites like OneManga and MangaFox might stop feeling so safe by claiming they're only hosting the site and what people put on their isn't up to them.

Well back to the point of this case, within the realm of reality and jurisdiction.
Can they force him to really relinquish the domain names? What grounds would they argue to support it?
It is an odd question but I found it to be an odd request in the complaint.

You mess with the Bulls (DC and Marvel, with their LEGIONS of rabid law firms and black-hearted lawyers/jackals and ridiculously deep pockets and political influence) you'll get the horns.

Now all that needs to be done is for someone to hack MangaFox and OneManga and upload the entire copyrighted library for both US Comic Juggernauts, sit back, pop a cold one, and watch the sweet "HULK SMASH!" the DOJ brings down on them.

I hope they nail this guy to the wall. It *really* irks me when leaches like these people make MILLIONS off of web traffic by stealing the IP's of hard-working artists -who aren't millionaires, people- who don't see one dime.

And shame on the entitled, morally bankrupt culture/youth we've fostered that believes supporting and condoning such theft is permissible.

The only people they hurt are the very artists they claim to love. Guess what, if you're beloved artist can't make any money, they won't be drawing your beloved comics because they'll have to find other jobs just to pay the bills and eat.

I agree that websites like One Manga or Manga Fox should be shutted down. And the real reason is because of numberless ads, that are really annoying.

This way it turns out that creators of "Your #1st manga/anime source" create their websites only because they need money and not because they are funs of anime or manga. And this is very sad Crying or Very sad

But how will we be able to read scans of manga that don't get official English releases? For example, I really want to read Mysterious Girlfriend X, if onemanga is shut down, then how will I read it since it doesn't have an English release?

Find the group that does the scanlations and go to them. Or here's another idea. Learn Japanese, and buy the Japanese releases. Wink

There's that entitlement again. Just because it exists doesn't mean you should have some sort of right to read it. I don't have any actual numbers here, but I'm sure there are hundreds if not thousands of official English releases. You're telling me you have read every single thing in English that's interesting?

Or, as ZenErik suggested, if you really want to be able to read everything the Japanese get, learn Japanese and import. That would show a very admirable sense of dedication to your hobby.
