On a related note, a similar law has been introduced over here. Debate in the Lords' ultimately had little effect on its content.
I never had much faith in Westminster anyway. |

Life imprisonment? I'd say that's a reasonable punishment for fapping to a drawing.

Over-react much ? The article doesn't say that life-imprisonment would be a punishment for possession of virtual child porn. In fact, if you had read the previous article, you would have noticed that the law isn't intended to punish possession. It's targeted at people "who sell, offer, advertise, and promote child pornography; and have been found to possess, download, purchase, reproduce, or make available child pornography materials with the intent of selling or distributing them.". It looks like the law ultimately does criminalize all forms of possession and willful consumption, but the focus is clearly on production (via the violent crimes aspect) and distribution/sales. I assume that the harshest punishments would be reserved for activities involving real child porn. That said, anime was brought up during the promotion of the bill, so we'll see what happens. -t Last edited by Tempest on Thu Nov 19, 2009 5:18 pm; edited 1 time in total |

So, they were allowed to have real child pornography before? My god, so many things to deal with, and those retards wasting time and money on "virtual reality". |

you break this law, might as well break again in prison if that's the case <_< This law is dumb because of the massive gray area involved. |

Never do I. Then again, we can rely on the fact that no-one really abides by what our government says. They technically banned hardcore porn even though they still sell it in my local shops. Creating a law is one thing, it is another to have the resources to actively enforce it. |

With crime increasing daily, I doubt they have the time to actually deal with this stuff. As long as they keep in mind that preventing real crime comes before virtual bologus. |

The thought police are afoot, to f*** with the line between reality and not, for the good of us all, of course.

So what do they define as virtual "child" pornography?
Drawings of naked highschoolers? Drawings of highschoolers having sex? It's also ironic considering how a person can potentially get locked up for life for possession of such drawings but can legally have such relationships in real life |

Which brings a good point: what if the creators decide to introduce the girls in every hentai. Like this: "Hi, my name is X, and my burst size is huge, as you can see. I'm 18 years old, but since I was reproved for a couple years, I'm still at high school; here's my virtual ID and passport ~desu". A dilemma, indeed.

The old assumption was that porn would involve adults. The penalties for child porn are harsher. Cracking down on pedophiles in general, basically. |

Crime increasing daily where? In most of the "developed" world, crime has been on a rather steady decline over the past few decades even as crime gets more media coverage. |
