Very cool! Smile

Time for another "huzzah!" for TRSI/Nozomi. I never picked up Captain Tylor in any previous incarnation, it seems like this would be the perfect time to see what I had been missing out on. I've only heard good things about this series.

Captain Tylor was number one on my list of wanted anime I didn't think I'd ever be able to get, so I am thrilled to have this re-release to buy it. I loved the show!

Edit: I am talking about the TV series however, not the OVA. They are re-releasing both from what I saw, I am only interested in the TV series.

If Appleseed was a BD release, I'd be happy. But I already have the Geneon Steelbook of it, so until it gets put out on BD, I don't really care.

Agreed. I have bought most of ADV's license rescues, but I will stick with my Geneon steelbook unless they go Blu-Ray (crossing my fingers).

I really want to watch Captain Taylor, but Netflix doesn't have the first volume. So I might buy the remastered series just to be able to see how the series begins.

Although remastering is cool, I'd like to see Captain Taylor also get a Blue Ray release as well. But I never expected Captain Taylor to ever be remastered though.

Damn, I was hoping that was going to be a re-release of the Appleseed OVA.

Too bad bonbonrus didn't get the OVA, it was pretty good.

And sucks that Rightstuff isn't printing the Tylor Novella which shows what happens after he gets married. It used be included in the first OVA box set that was ever released.

A few things.

The "trade in" form for the OVA is not up, only the TV series. Since the article is kind of talking about the OVA that's a bit misleading.

The "trade in" for the TV series costs $20 plus shipping, or ≈ 60% off MSRP.

The remastered TV series consists of five discs, while the Ultra Edition only has four discs that contain the actual show, and no extra space to put anymore discs. No additional packaging will be sent with the "trade in"; where are we supposed to put the discs?

____

I am a little disappointed the trade in will still costs me $20+. They should probably call it what it is, a coupon. Plus the fact that I won't have anywhere to put the discs calls in to serious question as to whether or not I will even get this. I want to. Tylor is good fun once you get past the first 3 or 4 episodes. I have both Ultra Editions, and those were top notch releases, and now I am forced to make a decision of whether to leave them be, or botch the entire packaging just to get the upgraded picture. Hopefully the remastered OVA will be three discs.

bonbonsrus:

Did you see the OVA and not like it, or are you not going to see it because of what you have heard? I don't know why people rag on the OVA. Because it doesn't follow the exact same format as the TV show? It gives background on all of the major players, as most of the stories are about them in some way. Sure it casts the light that Tylor isn't a bumbling idiot, but he really is still just as irresponsible in the OVA. Plus I think the last two 50 minute episodes give a better and more conclusive series end than the TV did. Anyway I guess I never understood the extreme hate that some people have for it. (<-- I'm not saying you were spouting extreme hate bonbonsrus Wink )

Edit:
Oh and add me to the list that would buy the Appleseed movie if it was in Blu-ray. I already on the DVD so...

Also I guess I am one of the few that liked the first one better than Ex Machina.

Actually Appleseed is being distributed by ADV Films. The movie is part of their deal with Sentai Filmworks. You can tell this by the item #. ADV uses a "d" for their own titles, "swb" for Switchblade and "sf" for Sentail Filmworks. The item # for Appleseed is sfap001

I want an answer to this, too. If we're actually being left hanging with the extra disc, the whole thing is rather thoughtless.

Re: the extra disc, I'm pretty sure you can wedge *one* disc in a sleeve into the Ultra packaging. If you don't have one lying around, try a penny sample from this place.

@Dargonxtc:

Here's why people (myself included) rag on the OVAs:

1. Character focus aside, the writing isn't as strong.
2. After "An Exceptional Episode", the character designs took a turn for the worse, and the artwork seemed like it was washed in beige.
3. Harumi was just about written out of the finale, after being built up into such an interesting character in the TV series.
4. The ending was so poorly executed it was astounding. Having parts from the Sidestory Collection piece into the plot of the finale was a nice idea, but it doesn't work if you build up towards a climax that never comes with an appreciable payoff.

In fact, compared to what came before in the regular series, the only other finale I remember being more disappointing was Love Hina Again. As craptacular as LHA was, at least it had closure.

That being said, I'll probably end up upgrading the OVAs too, because I'm a completist and because I want to encourage RightStuf to do more things like this when they re-release titles in the future.
