He's playing that "I'll be polite to not burn any bridges" style of Japanese commentary. But I'd still rather he pull an Alan Moore and take his name off the final product.

I think he still feels the same way. But seriously, he's being way too polite. You know he wants to rip Fox a new asshole... |

I think people in the art community actually have a better appreciation of what people try to do sometimes and are more open minded about alternate takes on material than sometimes the fans are. I've always seen Toriyama as a pretty laid back guy, so I think that he is actually interested in seeing an American take on his work.
I think he's probably more amused than he is thinking "Oh my, this is awful." |

Well... he sure took a long-winded route to dance around calling it a steaming pile of sh*t.

"Alternate retellings" only work if they're GOOD (i.e. BGC 2040, Guyver TV). This...looks like excrement of the lowest order. |

My my, aren't we all negative.
Interesting comment from the man himself. Personally, I'm going to reserve judgment until I see the film myself. Then again, this is coming from a guy who finds it difficult to see the bad things in most of the things that he watches. Chances are, I'll probably enjoy it enough to not dislike it, as it's probable that this movie won't be a "masterpiece." Having low-moderate expectations help, since high hopes is a recipe for disappointment. |

To me, "a New Dragonball of a different dimension" sounds like it's barely recognizable, and that's what I have thought from the trailer. A few things are the same, but so much is different that it just plain feels wrong.

I wouldn't go as far as "barely recognizable." Probably just contradictory on some key points. For example, Dragonballs created by mystics instead of a Namek.
Think of it like two different Gundam series'. Same basic outline between the two, just different plot and story lines. |

Toriyama desn't really care about DB.
Well, that's not the right word. He's not as big a fan of his own work as most of the world is, ya see. It's not ENTIRELY out of the realm of possibilty for him to actually like the movie. But I'm betting my money on his real thoughts being "okay, whatever, lawlz." Not "this is horseshit." |

Yeah, that pretty much is it. I mean if the movie does well, that just means more royalties for him and if it doesn't, it can't damage the property since its been over for over ten years. |
