Well, that was quick!!! I'm surprised that Netflix would approved a 2nd season.

It's probably the usual Netflix practice where these episodes were already done but they split it up in two parts.

And I missed this ANN article from 2021 (which was also mentioned and included in this article) regarding the series, oopsies, my fault right here.

Planning for multiple seasons doesn't gurantee multiple seasons. I'm glad it's getting a second season, its wasn't perfect but I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to more.

Normally you're right, but I could speculate that Netflix knew this franchise would be a hit and probably green-lighted the 2nd season. I wouldn't be surprised if they already green-lighted the 3rd season in secret and we have to wait for the press release for DMC's 3rd season.

"From visionary Adi Shankar" - I feel like a lot of DMC fans would disagree with this.
I'm already worried about how they'll screw up Vergil and the series' lore even more in season 2. |

I thought the show was pretty good, but certainly not the best thing I've ever seen (if we're talking about Netflix video game adaptations alone I think almost any of the Castlevania seasons has it beat). Still nevertheless, I'll probably watch the 2nd season. It almost certainly helps if you're someone like me and don't know much about the series lore other than Dante & Vergil's Marvel vs. Capcom movesets and "they are part-demons who fight real good and can use 'Devil Triggers' to turn into scarier dudes"... oh, and that Dante was in Viewtiful Joe
![]() Frankly though, given how much seemingly every other studio/streaming service in the western world shuns or just does not make animation anymore, I'll take any sort of renewal of a show as an overall win for the artform. |

This show was really frustrating to evaluate because while the spectacle is great, it drops the ball on the substance. Unlike Castlevania which managed to weaved its subjects about grief, faith, humanity's failings, how religious institutions often oppress and manipulate, and later on the horrors of the French Revolution and exploitation of the working class into the narrative properly, this one just can't find a way to do that so it's like you're watching two different shows. One is the Dante Happy Demon Slashy Hour where they're letting him do his thing and where the show is the best, reveling in that "fun' heroic bloodshed violence the franchise codified, the other is kind of weak political show bogged down by clunky War on Terror symbolism that unfortunately encounters pitfalls with the subject matter and made me go "OOF!" a lot. Dante is often the most moral and best-written character on account of his contempt for political nonsense.
Altogether, I can't go any higher than saying "It's fun, but it's stupid, and not in a good way." Weirdly enough, it's like a video game where the gameplay is great but the story is a mess so you want to skip the cutscenes. X-Men '97 or Castlevania are just plain better |

The plot of this was abysmal. It practically took a giant dump on DmC lore. Sparda is now an incompetent douche who did more harm than good. Most demons are just poor oppressed people who wouldn't hurt a fly. This is the same garbage Rings of Power did with the orcs, trying to make them sympathetic. It's also pretty clear that the writer has no clue about Dmc, as the barrier Sparda made between the realms actually allows weak demons to simply pass through, so the problem in this series shouldn't even exist. Oh, and America is evil and wants to invade the demon realm for the resources. Whatever those might be. 2/10, just for the animation.

All the Castlevania fans laughing and pointing at Devil May Cry fans now that it's their turn to see their franchise get destroyed
Those of us who are fans of both... ouch. |

I haven't got around to watching the show yet but everything I've been hearing about it does not make it sound very appealing or accurate to the games at all. I did not expect much from a western Netflix adaption of a Japanese game but by all accounts i sounds even worse than Castlevania was.

The only people mad about it are the people who can't stand the idea of any nuance being added for the sake of a more interesting narrative. |

Honestly I know I already said upthread that I haven't played the games so my opinion my be invalid to you but I feel like if you can just go into it with the mindset that it's an alternate universe/timeline/whatever* and roll with it then it's not all that bad. *as an American comic reader that's kind of what I do every time Marvel/DC mess up something I like.

I really hope this is a sarcastic joke, because adding in a poorly executed allegory for American imperialism in the Middle East (to Devil May Cry, mind you, so have fun with the implications of associating the people of the Middle East with demons) that doesn't actually say anything and is only there because the showrunners think that makes their story a Big Boy Story is not interesting or nuanced lmao |

Okay, we are NOT doing that straw man in spite of some bad faith interpreters. Especially since DMC had a lot of nuance about human nature, how everyone has capacity for good and evil, and about complicated family relationships, so that's nothing new? And that's before getting into how the series was clever in lampooning dark fantasy tropes with dropping a wise-cracking goofball like Dante into what should be a dark, grim setting and proceeding to turn it into a fun romp instead. Definitely helps that it never got smug or "ironic" about it. Castlevania handled adding stuff into the narrative a lot better |
