damn... they're taking this seriously. i don't see the point of posting it in this environment though, it's not like Japanese fans care.

I hope this isn't Japan's answer to "Don't copy that floppy".

Nice translation on that sign. If fans had done it it would have been more accurate to the original Japanese writer's script and would have been available for download sooner.

I like the "fans" part, because nothing gets people to stop like slapping them in the face.

And hence that's the problem with the sign industry that they're going to have to fix somehow. |

All you sign fan-translation groups better watch out before lawsuits start flying your way for reducing the domestic market on Limited-edition "Moe-Moe Love-Roadsign Z" Platinum boxsets. And you kids reading your signs on CrunchySign better watch out too. Your days are numbered! This is serious business, people! |

I know this is huge issue, but a there's a lot of problems. A lot of people want to see x series but don't want to wait 1-1.5 years after airing to get it in America with a price attached. Also, x series might not even be licensed.

This is what Asian Guy was talking about earlier this week.I wonder if any of the 6 million downloaders heard it?

personally, i think they're right to intentionally place the word "fans" in quotes like this... it should, if you've an inclination to take notice of important information on anime, get you to question whether you deserve to be dismissed because you're part of the problem, or reassured that, because it doesn't feel as though it applies to you, you're part of the solution.
i'm not sure of the use of the phrase "Stop fansubbing" because i think fan subs - fan translation, access to newer shows before a company subs it - should continue to spread the word, and it should continue to allow fans to collectively play a part in pointing things in the right direction. problem is, it's now so connected to illegal downloads (and not what i always thought was a relatively minor fansubbing scene in VHS days), and it's also perhaps a clearer way to distinguish this practice from an industry that will partly be going DTO, that it doesn't hint at the idea of buying japanese or other unsubbed DVDs and synchronising a fansub file (whilst simply playing it back on a PC connected to a TV) to something which brings that financial support back into the picture. |

I agree.Just recently they released kite both in japan and here in the US to prevent piracy.Hopefully this method and more crackdown can put an end to this so no more COs end up like Geneon. |

Are you serious? Those signs exactly alike to me. What fans are good at is localized translation for a particular group. It doesn't mean their translation works are appropriate for people of all backgrounds. Unless you're a bilingual Japanese English speaker or lived in Japan for years, I cannot see your opinion as valid. Last edited by reanimator on Sat Mar 29, 2008 3:46 am; edited 1 time in total |
