I have to say, I've been waiting for MH: Wilds' debut week numbers in Japan and in certain aspects I have to say I'm quite impressed, but it's not the PS5 savior in Japan that some people believed it'd be. First of all, MH: Wilds had the biggest debut week for a PS5 game in Japan, it's actually higher that both the combined numbers of Final Fantasy XVI (336,027) and FFVII: Rebirth (262,656), not to mention that it actually moved a lot more PS5 hardware. On the other hand, compred to other MH debut week physical sales' numbers, Wilds is at number 10), the best debut for a MH in Japan was MH: Freedom 3 for the PSP which sold 2,146,467 copies, and just for comparison, MH: World is at fifth place with 1,350,412 debut week copies on the PS4 and MH: Rise is behind it with 1,302,132 on Switch.
All in all, not trying to downplay the amount of copies sold, we still need to consider the amount of digital copies sold on the PS5, though I imagine Wilds must have sold over a million copies on PS5 both physical and digital. But the thing is that PC gaming has grew lot in Japan in the last few years and I guess Wilds must have sold a lot there.
Considering that ever since the relase of MH: World the MH series has become more popular worldwide and that Wilds has become Capcom's fastest selling game, with over more than 8 million copies since it launched, I assume they must be more than happy with the result. Still, I wonder if Capcom is planning to port Wilds to the Switch 2, though I don't know if the system could handle it, especially seeing how people are complaining about its performance. I think it'd more logical if Capcom ported World to the Switch 2 first and later develop a sort of sequel to Rise.
