Generally agree with Richard's analysis of the second season, especially about Lysia; though her role here isn't as big as the others at this point, in the long term she may prove to be Ars' most important ally.

While I wasn't quite as enthusiastic about this season as I was the first one, I still appreciated how the story moved forward and showed Ars earning his achievements in a variety of different ways, rather than just through brute force. And definitely kudos to him for spoiler[pushing his marriage to Lysia forward on his own accord].

I got really into the first season and binged it in a day, but while I still had a good time with the second season, I did feel it dragging abit in the middle - the whole war just turned the show into a succession of taking over a succession of non-descriptive forts and castles we hadn't seen before and probably won't again. While that's probably fairly accurate for medieval feudal warfare, it was all very "your victory is in another castle" and it left my wanting for the war to just wrap up with its foregone conclusion, so we could go back to what made the show good in the first place.

Also I feel the show is starting to fall into rpg tropes. The supporting cast all seem to have their introductory arc, fall in line and mostly just act as party members without much stakes or objectives of their own. Charlotte is by far the worst offender here but even Rietz is starting to just kinds be there. Given how they already added at least one, probably 2 faces from the losers side, I don't see this improving much.

Going forward, I'm mostly curious to see how Ars can keep climbing the feudal ladder while maintaining his "good boi" persona. The road so far was fairly self evident, but if the story is gonna deliver on the whole "this kid may actually make it to Emperor" thing, he'll probably soon have to start stepping on the toes of people he's ostensibly on good terms with.

The first season was a surprise winner for me so I was happy to see the story continue and we finally get to the "war" portion.

Licia is a fantastic character and Best Girl and the fact that she has a legitimate romance with Ars that progresses to straight up marriage and gets to flex her political and negotiation muscles this season pleases me to no end. I only hope she's not totally left out in season 3 as we focus back on the battles.

I was glad to see Ars really come into his own this season. His freakouts over everything in season 1 almost became a meme but here we see him actually be serious and competent both as a commander and a lord and it was a great development for him.

The production values, especially in the second half of the season, definitely weren't amazing though I think the characters sold it as best they could and so I appreciated that.

I'm glad we got Mirielle's backstory and saw some of the "chinks" in her character with her brother. As well as Pham's.

I'm curious where they'll go with season 3 because I don't know if Vasmarque really has any change against Couran and Ars' forces at this point.

This is basically the closest we might get to a Fire Emblem anime.

personally this series should have gotten an episode review.

sure its not the best isekai anime in the genre, but its a lot better than others that got ep reviewed last year (LOOKING AT YOU SHIELD HERO S3!)

I enjoyed the second season more than I thought I would. It had a lot more struggle and depth to it than I was expecting after how breezy the first season was.

Quote:
Anytime horses are involved, they look odd and robotic (a problem in anime in general, not just this one)

With the in-depth isekai article front of mind, I would love an article on horse animation in anime and how every show seems to get it terribly wrong in different ways each time. I could understand if they're all using the same crappy animation rig, like the crouching-waddle background character walking animation I see in so many anime, but they all move different - and all move totally wrong for a horse

While this may be true, Shield Hero is also massively more popular.

I enjoyed both the first and second seasons, and recommend them both to someone who watched them back to back and and had is origin story fresh in their mind and offered these two points of criticism.
1) Ars is a re-incarnated salaryman yet displays behavior and often acts with the emotional maturity of a child as if the reincarnation part of the story is simply forgotten about and ignored.
2) as such, doesn't the fact that he is supposed to be 30 something make him falling in love and wanting to marry a 10-13 year old girl a bit creepy?

I couldn't counter either argument and wondered if they may have been better off eliminating the concept of him being reincarnated all together as it only has a negative impact on his story?
