Woah, didn't see this coming. I'll have to get in touch with my friends who work for Otakon...

Anime Expo has been the largest for probably the last decade. Their 2007 attendance was an estimated 44,000 people.

I'd much rather see someone leave that position for personal reasons than being ousted for doing a bad job. I've only been once and had a blast. I wonder if it's too early to make plans for next year.
Incidentally, Chio-chan Kitmun was my favorite character in Azumanga Daioh.

Judging by how fast the hotels sold out...probably not. I'm still worrying about where me and my friends will sleep this year
I was actually planning on cosplaying for the first time ever this year, but my spirits have been broken by a number of bad news tidbits lately. Well, whatever the case may be I hope things work out for him.

Regarding Sam's resignation....
I can't believe I'm already hearing rumors. People just LOVE scandals and will invent them if there aren't any.
Sorry to disappoint, but it really was just a case of real life overtaking him at a bad time. We have bylaws for the organization and things have been cooking along -- perhaps a bit faster than our site has been updated. Our VP has stepped up to cover things until the special election (mandated in our bylaws) kicks in, and meanwhile things are cooking along just fine. There should be a bunch of updates coming soon, including pre-reg announcements, at least one early guest announcement, and a "guess the musical act" contest (as soon as I have time to structure it!) to tide you over and they're all coming in the next few weeks.
I think this will be a year to remember...
