What do you all think about the new character art?

It's been awhile since I watched the original series, but I am thinking the characters look a bit younger or more chibi. Perhaps not, and it is just my poor memory.

Will Christopher Sabat still voice Garterbelt in the English dub?

They look the same to me. Or rather, there doesn't seem to be any deliberate attempt to alter their age or appearance.

they will need to replace he late Chris Ayers on Corset, anyway.
and in the Japanese side they will likely recast Kneesocks since Ayumi Fujimura is retired.

That is highly unlikely. He's getting recast.

A fruit of the rescue of Gainax properties, I guess. They had annouced a project at some point, though we all know how that went...

Good to hear.

They better recast Piccolo with a green identifying guy too while they're at it.

Visual makes me curious what the story is going to be. Hopefully Jamie Marchi and Monica Rial reprise their roles.

I hope not. He was one of the best parts of the original dub.

The difference is Garterbelt is actually black rather than it just being an unfunny internet meme so I would be genuinely surprised if he wasn't recast given the way dubs are handled these day. (Yes, it's ironic Japanese coded characters can still be played by white people and no one cares)

I think that is down to them being the majority, as far as country of origin is concerned, so they are no different, as far as the dub studio is concerned, to Caucasians. You are also replacing the Japanese language with the English language, it's kind of hard to ration against using none Japanese actors when you are changing the language.

Plus, it just wouldn't look good to say to a group of actors "Sorry, you are not allowed to audition for most of the characters in this title".

I like that the art style is mostly the same

Not sure I’m gonna watch this, though. Only remember a few standout jokes and scenes from the OG and the rest I didn’t really enjoy…

They could honestly go either way with Garterbelt's casting this season. Sometimes they keep the non-POC legacy cast (Agil in SAO), other times they do the recast to keep with the times (most of the POCs in Bleach). Since the dub will more than likely be in Crunchyroll's hands, I'm thinking they'll angle for a recast, probably with someone like Imari Williams, Gabe Kunda or Bill Butts. Maybe Bob Carter if he still does Texas dubs...

Whoever licenses it needs to get Jamie Marchi and Monica Rial back for the English dub.

The line work seems to be pretty much identical. It's been almost 15 years so I'm sure they've tweaked it a little bit but not in a noticeable way. The reason it looks softer is the color gradients. The original show used flat shading. I like the change quite a bit. Looks really vibrant.
