Considering how many of Anime Eigo's old licenses Discotek have license saved, this feels very fitting.

Nice to hear some good news about an English anime label being acquired for once, isn't it? Robert (& Natsumi) has more than earned retirement, and Justin is the perfect person to continue AnimEigo's legacy with due respect.

It’s been a long time since I heard about AnimeEigo. I’ll be curious to see where things go from here.

Good for you, Bob! You deserve a nice mellow retirement!

Hopefully this buyout/handover goes better and has less impact on the Macross kickstarter than . . . um, other anime kickstarters.

LOL, yes that is the goal, isn't it...

Long story short, Robert and Natsumi will stay on to service MACROSS II and some more yet-unannounced Kickstarters til the very end.

I’ll admit AnimEigo is definitely a bit before my time so I’m not super familiar with the brand haha (though I have heard the name before), but all in all this seems like a fitting acquisition for MediaOCD. Looking forward to seeing what they cook up beyond the work they do with Discotek!!

This caught me by surprise when I saw the news, but on a bit of reflection it makes a lot of sense as Animeigo's founders are hitting retirement age which means something was going o have to happen with the company (be it passing management on to family, selling it or shutting down), and Justin's passion for anime and the quality of his work in the field seems like a great match.

So it's sort of sad to see Robert and Ueki heading towards retirement as they're some of the last of the people involved in classic US anime distribution still active (that I know of), but it's good to see they're going to remain involved with it for a while, and that it's going to be in what appear to be very good hands in the future rather than becoming just a bunch of assets for a company that'll drop the name and history of the company for rebrand.

That's great news:)

Congratulations on your new purchase Smile
I'm now wondering what titles you might start to try and remaster that they've got the rights to Smile

AnimEigo was way before my time, but I did attend one of their panels at a convention once and it was really nice and fun. It really seemed like they also truly care about the stuff they put out, even if their output isn't the same as it was back when they were more active. Glad to see its in good hands.

This is really great news! AnimEigo was one of the companies that really got me into anime before I had even heard of A.D. Vision or VIZ Communications in the early 90s. Though looking back the only one I own is Otaku no Video on DVD (bought it at Otakon when it was released), hopefully I get to correct that sooner or later. Wink

Justin, you are keeping the AnimEigo name alive, right? Please don't be a Sony about this.

I'm happy to see an anime company getting bought that's actually staying in good hands.
