According to Helen McCarthy, this is the series Cromartie is specifically spoofing.

Well, Otokojuku is half serious have comedy. You would know this if you watched the few episodes of it they have subbed.

Yea, when I first read Cromartie High, first thing that came to me was this, "hey! This look like a spoof off of Sakigake!! Otoko Juku!

Well since the movie going be made in Japan and since it's was a SJ manga, what you think the chances of the manga making it to America?

I'm not sure. Youth thug manga doesn't seem to do well here. Cromartie got away with it, because it was a parody. And Midori was basically just a mix of the genre with a Rumiko Takahashi-like series. But Worst, Baki, and Tough had crappy fates. Still, if the movie ends up being popular enough to import here, you never know...

Can't forget Shonan Junai Gumi. That'll be a success series here, obvisiously.
