I think I actually liked Peach Girl for being a bit over-done, it was cheezy, fun, and a little sweet at times. Even though it was super angsty, I can tell you that high school can be that dramatic and I think some girls can relate to Momo easily.

I actually enjoyed the music in the series, I don't really see any other soundtrack really working, it was just meant to be cute but I agree it was nothing great. I also agree that the animation was seriously lacking and the art was off at times but it gets better as the series progresses. I also like how the characters actually have different clothes ever few episodes.

Peach Girl starts off pretty weak but it does get pretty good. The manga is a much better choice though.

This DVD was so disappointing, the horrid English dub plus the English opening theme is just unsatisfying. What I hate most about the story is spoiler[Momo keeps telling herself not to believe Sae, since she knows how much of a liar Sae is. Yet she keeps on believing everything that comes out of her mouth. Therefore, creating friction and huge misunderstandings between her Toji.] Some situations are just too cliché.

Oh, I’m with you on that one. I like something light and cheesy on occasion too. My first paragraph was more a warning to those who don’t have such inclinations (and a voicing of the thoughts that occasionally popped into my brain while watching).

I’ll be the first to admit (after making sure there’re no macho men around to laugh at me) that I was really fond of the manga, so I’ll be in for the entire run of the series, if only to see how Kenichi Suzumura handles the later Kairi scenes, so I really do hope the technical merits pick up.

I liked the series too...it's sort of like a guilty pleasure for me. Not exactly my favorite series, but entertaining enough that I bought the vol. 1 box with the purse and manga, which I will definitely have to read. I rather liked the pace of the series; if it had been stretched over 2 seasons I might have grown impatient and started throwing marshmallows at my screen.

How sad that they dubbed over the opening and ending. I loved the ending song...the music video made me cry. Ah well, at least FUNi brought it over. Smile

I don't think they completely replaced the original songs--if Funi dubs songs, like they did with Fruits Basket, Desert Punk, Kiddy Grade, and some other series, they still leave the Japanese version on the Japanese audio track. You only get the English version in the English audio track.

That makes me feel better. I didn't think they would do something like that on a DVD only release, but I wasn't entirely sure.

I must say, I prefer reading the manga over watching the anime.

Some scenes are pretty, while other parts of the animation looks...

er...stale?

Anyway, I can't say the English dubbing won me over. Honestly if anything, I kept begging VIZ to take it so I would be able to hear Kelly Sheridan do the voice of Momo instead.

xD I dunno, Kelly has Bite. lol.

And I thought that some of the female voices for the other characters seemed too much alike.

I'll admit to this, there were some parts with the script that they used in the scenes that made me laugh out loud.

"What crawled up her butt?"
"What's with all these skanks thinking they can get a guy?" (Anime hyper Or something like that.)

But other than that, the dub is like a 50/50 for me. I prefer the Japanese, but I'll keep watching to see if they'll improve, I guess.

Generally speaking, most of the anime companies don't toss out original content on the DVDs, with 4Kids being a major exception to the rule. Usually, any changes will be found when you watch the dub. It's not an absolute rule, but it's true most of the time. Funimation has had some trouble with securing the rights to music on occasion, but I don't think they've ever deliberately tossed out the Japanese OP or ED from a show.

Viz on the other hand kept the broadcast OP and ED for Prince of Tennis on the DVDs and put the Japanese OP and ED in the "extras" section.

Funimation dubbing songs is actually pretty cool in my opinion, since they actually have talent that sounds good singing (I wish I had a CD of their English version of the OP and ED for Fruits Basket,) but the move Viz pulled is pretty annoying. It reeks of nepotism since the music guy is related to the dub producer, IIRC.

I've only gotten to see the first episode of Peach Girl since it was on a Newype preivew disc, but I'm pretty much sold on the series. I like angsty love rectangles and Momo is a fun character, though the one I really want to get inside the head of is Sae. That girl has some issues.

I saw all the episodes. I'll buy the dvds when I can. Anyway I hate sae and wish for her a most painful accident. Smile Its a fun show but Sae is always trying to start something. Oh well. If it wasnt for her the show would be shorter.

Btw Richard J., there is a manga that revolves around Sae. Maybe you might wanna read it. I didn't read it yet. Maybe my view of her will change when I do.

I thought the series was kinda cute. It made me so mad at times (basically every time I saw Sae). It was not really my favorite but over all I liked it. The new challenge is finding another short love story I'll like. Surprised
