Recently, I received an email from Mr. Richard York, a representative from Media Blasters, and he informed me that Media Blasters did not acquire the license for the second season of Ah My Goddess.
While this is unfortunate, at least fans here in the United States and Canada got the opportunity to purchase the first season on DVD's. I contacted Media Blasters on behalf of my website, The Goddess Project.net (http;//www.goddess-project.net) because of the high interest in the second season DVD's. But, this means that nobody has licensed the series just yet. Here's hoping that Anime News Network Staff can update their information. If possible, I'd be willing to forward the email I received ... ToonZone claims that M-B licensed it, but they've been wrong about such things in the past; they listed Mai-Otome as a Bandai license initially after AX IIRC. ASki and AoD have it in their license databases, but hey, if the Media-Blasters rep says it isn't licensed, we have to believe him. EDIT: *sarcasm off* for this post.

Mr York has been gratious enough to provide me with information for my site ... it's dedicated completely to AMG Anime & Manga information ...
At any rate, he's been gratious and kind enough to provide information and that he said they just returned from a trip from Japan and that they didn't receive the license for season 2. This could be due to a number of things ... but he didn't elaborate on details because he said he wasn't briefed on them ... |

The clarification is that they would not be picking up the license ... not that they weren't able to acquire it ... hopefully, MB will be clarifiying its reason in the coming weeks ...

I guess that since they won't be picking it up, maybe it'll be up to Geneon to license it and use the same voice actors. Maybe the Japanese licensor was asking for too much money, or Media Blasters thinks it won't sell here. I however, very much enjoyed the first season and hopes the second season will be licensed by someone. Also... Here's an idea, boycott Media Blasters until they license the second season (I'm not serious) Last edited by kusanagi-sama on Tue Nov 07, 2006 6:58 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I don't care who gets it, but I REALLY hope that for continuity's sake they use the same VA's. I really liked the VA choices that were made for the first season, and would hate to see the flow of the story spoiled by not having the same group do the voice work.

To me, this is good news. Hopefully, and I really think it will happen, is that Geneon will license the second season.

Why? MB's thinpacks are cheaper.

How could this good news ... while Media Blasters didn't use the orignal OVA VA's they did manage to do a pretty decent job with the first season. The fact that they're not releasing season 2 means that it's highly doubtful that another anime distributor here in the states will jump on the bandwagon for Season 2.
I've personally noticed that an anime US company doesn't tend to jump on an anime series when the previous seasons were released by another company ... |

This is a good point but I still hope some other company picks up the rights and releases it here.

Doubtful. Everyone knows it's a big series. It's just a matter of who can best scratch the licensor's back. I'm guessing it'll also wind up with FUNi, though. But it'd be a great opportunity for Animeigo to get something new, if they'd be willing to take it. |

This is sad to hear, I was really looking forward to MB releasing AMG Season 2. Hopefully some other US company picks up the license.

It'd be nice to see the return of the original OVA VA's if AnimEigo received the license but I don't think AE would spend the money on new anime titles with the sole exception of (GAG) YAWARA ... |
