a great show with great technical merits across the board. I was reluctantly about to drop it after episode 1 because of how serious it was (I acknowledged its quality but I already deal with reality the rest of my day and prefer something more fantastical for my limited leisure time), I am so glad I didn't, from episode 2 onward it finds a better balance with its more humorous parts without losing its heart.

Man, I feel so bad for Izumi, this girl just keeps breaking into his room like she owns the place, how is a guy supposed to fap in peace like that? JK. I can also relate with the club adviser, people also asumes something else for my web alias, btw, in my case I named it after my first Pug

Honestly, ever since Milo and Otis I always assume the name Milo is either talking about a pug or an orange tabby cat. Smile

I spoiled the anime giving a look at the manga before airing, and for this reason for me the anime production looks a bit subpar, with the dead colors and the very weak and very obvious sound track (why that one off pop music in episode 1?).

Can we just acknowledge the hilariously (if not obnoxiously) on-point bit of having “Train Train” by The Blue Hearts playing as Kazusa goes up to Izumi’s room, only to find him masturbating to train-themed porn, then she runs downstairs and out into the streets in a montage that ends with the beyond cliché “train going through a tunnel” symbolism? Can you imagine how hard they laughed storyboarding this sequence?

Also, please listen to The Blue Hearts; they’re one of Japan’s all time great bands.

While the series certainly has its fair share of drama and seriousness, I think comedy is an apt descriptor too. There's a ton of clever, funny jokes and scenarios throughout these first 3 episodes, and the entire Train Train sequences is one of the most transcendentally hilarious things I've ever seen.

This show is so absolutely terrible. It's way too over the top with its depiction of sex from a teen's perspective, obnoxious with its delivery of comedy and overly reliant on cliché overused drama scenes (every interaction Kazusa has with Izumi, her overreaction of his perverted interests, him chasing after her and subsequently falling on top of her, etc.) has been done to death by so many anime before it, and the ways it perpetuates these clichés aren't even particularly good.

Putrid writing and unrealistic, ostentatious characters, an absolute garbage fest. A complete failure of an anime, as per usual by Okada, and for that I love every minute of it. It's a perfect, classic example of something being so bad that it actually ends up being entertaining. I love it. Props to Niina's character who appears to be aware of the whole thing. I'm now fully convinced Okada is aware of what she makes.

This is probably the cutest anime about sex. Although that teacher plot is a bit cliche, and I’m kind of hoping against hope it *doesn’t* turn into a romance. It’s not kids who have to be careful with who they meet online, it’s teachers! Laughing

I’m rooting for Kazusa and Izumi. They’re adorable, and Izumi is a saint; he has every right to lose his temper, but he’s too embarrassed and concerned about *her* feelings that he doesn’t (girl’s gotta learn how to ]i]knock[/i], seriously!)

I want to know more about Niina and her drama classes; I got the impression that she may be hiding some trauma. I could be wrong, though.

Hongo’s the only character I’m not sure what to make of: why does she specifically want to write erotic novels? If she wants relationship experience, why doesn’t she try to date fellow teens? Is she too naive to realize that anonymous internet hookups can be dangerous, or too desperate for “experience” to care? I want to know more about her motivations and background.

Overall, this is a very entertaining, relatable and sometimes cringe inducing show. The quality of its animation and soundtrack are top notch.

She wants to be able to see sex and sexuality academically, but she's having trouble with that, as we can see this week when she demands that she gets a paper wrapper to hide her perfectly innocuous fashion magazine leaving the bookstore. She's trying so hard to be seen as serious.

I read that scene a little differently. She bought the whole magazine to scrutinize one ad in particular to see if she looks like the model, as the cute boy who thinks she's cute told her. If anyone sees her with that magazine, they'll somehow magically know exactly why she bought it, and she'd die of shame at being outed as even caring what he said.

I kinda got the feeling that her editor pressured her into it. She probably sent in some samples of her writing, he thought she had talent, but wanted to exploit her being in high school by having her write adult content. Which hasn't worked out as he'd hoped, but he hasn't given up. He's seemed like a sleazebag from the first time I saw him on the phone with her. I keep expecting him to offer to give her some experience - for the sake of her writing, you understand.

They almost lost me with the fall down the steps. Why she stayed in his room for even a moment longer than necessary to return the DVD - sorry Blu-ray, I can't imagine. I'd be too worried about being caught to even think about anything else in the moment.

This. This is how I remember adolescence. So sure everyone was watching, seeing inside my head when, of course, they were all too busy spinning circles in their own heads to notice anyone else. I think this show captures that age perfectly. The uncertainty, the vulnerability, all the physical and emotional changes we go thru at that age. And I think the show does it with great humor and warmth.

Thoroughly enjoying this one. One of my favorites this season.

Ohhh, yes - you hit the nail on the head. Except I would have been aghast at anyone knowing I was reading a *gasp* fashion magazine rather than a book, which is why I interpreted the scene the way I did. But either way, the emotion captured is the same.

I started this summer season with this show and from watching the first episode, I did not know what to think of it. The serious tone of the show felt heavy I guess after watching it do to the subject matter, but as I continue to watch more episodes I am beginning to warm up to the story. I would say the thing I like most about this series so far is how the anime makes me feel for the characters. I felt sad that Kazusa and the members of her club for not being like by their peers as well as angry that some of the students appear to be getting in the way of Kazusa’s and Izumi’s relationship due to their envy. Oh and Kazusa dashing out of her friends house screaming after learning her friend has hit puberty by witnessing him performing rainbows was funny but also made me want to give Kazusa a hug of sympathy. Then there is Kazusa’s parents as they shared their experience giving birth to her was a funny but soul warming moment (I hope if I become a husband I would be this dependable like Kazusa's father was to his wife) even if what they were sharing had nothing to do with their daughter’s question (her parents deciding that all three should sleep together was funny as well). I have yet to see an anime that makes me feel these emotions to this degree and that might be a factor in determining whether this would be my most favorite show of this season or not.

On another note this has been on my mind since I saw the preview episode and it’s become more apparent watching the other two episodes. I think Rika is suffering from envy, but unlike how the other female classmates have express their envy towards Kazusa, she goes about it by constantly being in denial of herself, and others to a less extent. She clearly wants to look attractive and be in a relationship, but is uncertain on how to go about it as well as having low confidence in herself at the present, so she hides the desire though her puritanical-like behavior, but contradicts that behavior by making lewd novels the main focus of the club she’s in charge of (I consider her responsible for having Kazusa and her best friend Momoko minds affected by this), her outburst among her class follow by criticizing one of her classmates, and rejecting the one boy who finds her attractive. She’s also very sensitive about the topic of sex to the point of getting offensive despite claiming how uninterested she is. If she really did not care about the topic of sex she would be more apathetic.

I am guessing Rika’s character arc is going to involve her becoming more honest with her desires follow by gaining enough confidence to becoming the attractive women she wants to be while getting in a relationship (likely with that classmates who think she’s hot). I imagine the one ganguro with blond hair (which by the way am surprise to see this style of fashion being represented in this time period as I thought that was style that lasted from the 90s to the early 2000s) will help Rika out with her growth considering she felt sympathy for what happen to her during gym class while her friends were just laughing at her.

Then there is Niina who I am concern about. She mentions she does not have much long to live yet the story does not seem to be addressing this at the moment. While it does not bother me since I am occupy with what the other characters are going through her fragile life remains at the back of my mind. Since I am speaking about her I am glad we got to see another side of Niina when she was interacting with the one creepy guy (that person clearly does not have good social skills). It feels like to me in some cases certain characters typically only show one particular character trait and rarely if ever show a different side to them. However Niina has shown there is more to her then just being a quite person and I am glad for it. Very Happy

While my affinity in terms of relating to this anime on a personal level is not going to be as great as compared to others since my experience as a teen was not so turbulent as others make it out to be, I do like how this show is making me feel emotionally for the characters. I am also glad this anime exist for the girls who are currently going through puberty, and who prefer watching shows over reading books, since I am sure this would be a topical show for them watch and relate to.

P.S I find it funny that Izumi's love of trains is so great that it even affects his preference of what porn he consumes. That is so unheard but fascinating for me. Anime smile

But it has been addressed in episode 2, in her conversation with Kazusa: "Niina, the young girl, is going to die soon". She's talking about how her maidenly looks, the supposed source of her present attractiveness, are going to disappear. Not knowing what these changes will result in, she perceives them as the death of the idea of her own self that she has held for a long time.

^ Oh you're right. My bad! I completely forgotten about what she told Kazusa. It's all coming back to me now, but I remember being a bit confuse as I was not sure she was talking about a literal death or a metaphorical one. From what you told me it seems to be the latter. Thanks for the correction Peterhof. Smile
