Hmmm.... I wonder if Hollywood is making a generalized (or stereotypical) statement about anime fans.

He seems to love Aquaman Six Million Dollar Man and Ironman the most, so I feel sorry for fans of those series.

I wonder what they're trying to say about comic book/anime fans..... Hrmmm.....

Of course, I don't doubt that I'd still be into all that stuff when I'm 40. But still.... Confused

It's still a pretty funny movie, though.

Oh, lay off. It doesn't really take a completely negative stance on geeks (I'll choose this term for today, don't read too much into it), like so many seem to be quick to think. This movie was actually pretty great and worth seeing. I'm sure the people in charge of props were either geeks themselves (very likely) or grabbed every toy they could find.

There are Ryu (Street Fighter) and Terry Bogard (Fatal Fury) dolls sitting on a box in one scene. Also, there's a diecast Hero Collection Getter-1 (Getter Robo) in the background of two scenes. It's far away enough to be pretty blurry, but it's recognizable (BRIGHT GREEN BOX).

So this movie doesn't present geeks in a negative light? Thank goodness!

I'm thinking of seeing this movie myself. I'm actually watching Densha Otoko myself, which protrays that even the so-called geeks can have a life (read:love life with real people) outside their respective obssessive "hobbies".

Actually, I think it portrays his deflowered friends in a more negative light, because they can't hold down a relationship, and/or frequently sleep around.

You're either a late-blooming teenager, or a liar.

Yeah, cause all us Otaku are A.D.D. testcases whom only watch Dragon Ball GT because it's the "Greatest Anime Evah!!"

Seriously, sometimes Hollywood does get it wrong horribly. I can't count how many times I had to defend my Mazda FD RX-7 from idiots whom asked "Where's the NAUUUUSSSS?" "Where's the Neon?!"

Thought I was kinda flattered when someone asked "Howcome you have Kyoko's Ride?"

This was a great movie. Yes, the bit with Steve's character being a bit of a comic nerd is a stereotype, but it really doesn't matter. I think the toys/action figures are just used to show that part of his character is still childish, as he's initially not interested in attempting to have a relationship, but would rather take care of his toys.

But there's nothing wrong with toys... ::clutches Ghibli plushies, Eva models, McFarlane figures, and hisses::

Anyway, I'd recommend this movie. It surprisingly has some depth to it, and does not condescend at all to the virginal character.

Hmm...I'm sort of iffy on the "40 Year Old Virgin" simply because I thought they would be making fun of virigins who's not interested in sex. :/

But I guess I'll give it a chance...-shrugs- I might have to go to the movies AFTER my birthday. xD;

Anyway, I'm just glad anime action figures are getting some silver screentime. Very Happy

Those who say they aren't interested in sex are lying. I am interested in sex with the fairer sex, but it should and will only take place in a marriage.

I fail to see how this is newsworthy. Next time they should report how someone found a Yu Gi Oh card on the sidewalk.

Anyway, like the first poster said, it's like they're saying if you're into anime you will always be a virgin. Again, not something I'd make a news story about.
