Halfway there to seeing PlayStation return to selling 100m consoles after failing to do so with the PS3.

You make it sound like the PS3 was a failure. 83.4 million is a bloody lot of sold consoles.

The problem is that the PS4 bombed in Japan so we can expect more western games than Japanese. I do like western RPG's, but I was hoping JRPG's would do better on the PS4. Probably why I would often rather replay a PS1/2 game then get a PS4.

They don't have to sell 100 million systems they just have to sale enough to be profitable as we all know it took some time for them to make a profit on the PS3.

It wasn't a failure but it's first 4-5 years wasn't exactly smooth.

It didn't bomb. It's still the number one selling console in Japan, and its numbers are pretty much even with the UK.
The issue is that gaming in Japan is mostly handheld/mobile these days. Which is why the majority of PS4 JRPGs are Vita ports.

You're doing this on purpose.

The PS4 was apparently being sold at a profit before the end of it's first year on the market, it didn't cost them over 800$ per unit like the PS3 did at launch.
being a lot less crazy with it's design and hardware has paid off greatly for them.

The Japanese console market is dead. Mobile and handhelds have taken over. This is Why I expect Nintendo Switch to have record sales numbers.
