Doubt John Woo's producing anything at the present time. Even anything actually confirmed.

Why is that ?

A potential licensor for this show told me, "One of the things we looked into was whether Woo was really involved, or just a name attached to a project. He's really involved in a hands on capactiy."

From the following "interview":

NGUYEN: Mr. Woo, were getting a bit far afield with this... you said you were also attached to some other projects?

WOO: Yes... In addition to He-Man, we've also accuired some other fantastic movie liscences. We've optioned Nintendo for Metroid, but that's up in the air.

NGUYEN: Well, it's a better idea than He-Man. In fact, I'd actually watch that, unlike crap like your own movie Windtalkers, which I wouldn't watch if you tied me to a chair Clockwork Orange style with my eyes pried open. In that event, I would actually will my eyeballs to eject from their sockets.

WOO: Like I said... it's not final yet. But here's some of other movie projects I'm personally involved in that are in various stages of production... this is my "picks of the litter":

GI Joe: We're considering making this with stop motion animation using real 80's GI Joe action figures. Were doing test shots to see if this method is at all viable. If not, we'll just CG the sh*t out of it.

Laser Tag: Still in the script stage, but I did have some concept art that would blow your freakin' mind! Imagine my trademark gunfight scenes, only with Lazer Tag!

Johnny Quest: A possible computer animated feature. We'd like to have that Indian kid from Harold and Kumar go to White Castle do the voice of Johnny's little ethnic friend "Haji"

Bazooka Joe: Johnny Depp is shown interest

The Get Along Gang: What's left of the Jim Henson studio is currently designing test costumes for the main characters. Think "H.R. Puffinstuff" on acid... that's what I'm going for.

Pitfall: We were thinking of doing this as a spoof of the Indiana Jones movies along the lines of the "Scary Movie" series). If I had my pick of actors to play Pitfall Harry... I'd go with Brendan Frasier.

She-Ra: Depending on how well the He Man thing goes, She Ra is slated to be a spinoff much like the recent and fantastic "Electra" was a spinoff of Daredevil.

Uhhh, what does a fake interview have to do with your doubt about him producing anything?

You're not making sense...

I'm just saying he has his name attached to so many properties lately, that it's hard to believe he'll be involved. He already lost TMNT.

John Woo to direct the next 'Appleseed' movie? Shocked

Now this is some news. Well I guess we can expect some dramatic action and maybe a "white" dove flying by. Hahahaha!!

Most of what he's directed so far are good so I'm sure he'll do a good job. If Shirow approves. But I wonder how much involvement Shirow had with the first film?

As for the upcoming TV series, I'm looking forward to it. I'm surprised they never thought to produce one sooner. Guess the studios and the TV networks are always looking for new material to produce and air. Now my question is will the series be a 2D with 3D combination or all 3D like what's being done with the new 'Dominion' TV series?

No, it specifically says "produce" which means "producer" which means someone who brings in the money and talent and name recognition to a project, not necessarily someone who has a hands on take on a project.

Aramaki, who directed the first one, will be handling the direction on this new one as well.

Was wondering that myself. Was it any good?

I wonderif the series will follow the movie timeline or be rework of the story?

It is true that at this moment Woo's name is attached to a lot of projects. I wish he instead concentrated on a fewer and more interesting projects, or, better yet, returned to China and reunited with Chow Yun Fat. The day that happens truly would be "a better tomorrow" for all involved parties.

So will the new movie and series suck like the horrid Appleseed did? Man that movie wasn't to hot..beautiful animation but lousy plot and bad-paced emotional timing..everything felt so out of pace..

Why is John Woo overworking himself to death? I thought he was already doing video game to movie adaptations of Metroid and Spy Hunter? What's next for Woo, directing Office Space 2? Did he even get the TPS report? Wink

I thought the first movie was poorly paced, poorly acted, and poorly plotted. I will give it some respect for the often goprgeous animation and fight sequences, but besides those I really felt like my time and money had been wasted. i will be very cautious about seeing this next version.

Hopefully, the anime series will actually complete the manga? Or will at least compliment it? I really felt like with the movie I was watching a different project entirely with a few of the familiar names tacked on. Where's all the cool political intrigue and police action? Or at least the philosophical aspects and hot babes

Appleseed's alright, if you don't have high expectations. And with most sci-fi anime post-Evangelion obssessed with being as vague and tedious as possible, I thought it was actually a breath of fresh air. It's not another Akira or Ghost in the Shell, but then it doesn't really need to be, and in that sense, it already surpasses Innocence and Steamboy.

Ah, I understand. Almost sounds similar to what 'Tarantino' did for 'Hero' or one of those movies.

I'll be getting the chance to see the first flick soon as we get it in. We have it on order for the library's collection. Since the institution is an art college and animation of all mediums is studied here.
