{Edit}: Unless you have something to actually say on the topic itself you might think about simply not posting at all. Trolling a topic by saying "hur hur here comes the drama" does nothing but to create that drama itself. Which is about as helpful as tits on a bull as they say. ~ Psycho 101

This might actually be true. I'm just glad this wasn't an anti-anime, anime is ruining kids programming, rant.

Since the actual reason stated was a straight business and financial reason there shouldn't be much drama. It's not like he derided the content of Pokemon and the type of show it was as the downfall of WB cartoons. It was purely the incredible business deal Kids WB received and its immense popularity set a pricing standard that was unreasonable for WB cartoons like animaniacs and Freakazoid to succeed with.

Just as well, to be honest. I make no apologies for my love of Animaniacs, but by the time it went to Kids WB, the cartoon anarchy it perfected was already dying.

Good Lord! Never mind the article, I would love to see Freakazoid, Pinky and the Brain, and Tiny Toon Adventures on Netflix. That would be freaking awesome!

From what I understand, Kids WB was unhappy with the fact that Animaniacs, Freakazoid, Pinky and the Brain, and the other Spielberg/Ruegger cartoons were more popular with teens and young adults than the network's target demographic - kids between the ages of four and eleven. Even though the ratings for these series were consistently high, the network had difficulty finding sponsors for them because many of the people who actually tuned in weren't going to buy products targeted at young children. (I watched - and enjoyed - all of the above-mentioned series as a child, but until I revisited them as an adult, I wasn't aware of just how much of their humor had been lost on me.)

I thought so, too. Turns out most of the Kids WB episodes were adapted from unused Fox scripts. Many of the chief creative forces behind the show were working on other Spielberg-produced cartoons by the time Kids WB greenlit additional episodes.

I think Freakazoid would do very well on Netflix. The show's sense of humor and comic sensibilities are much better suited to a 2016 audience than a mid-'90s one. As a kid, I never appreciated how far ahead of its time that twisted little show truly was.

Whew, nice to see this wasn't a "ANIMEH IS RUINING THE FABRIC OF AMIRICAN ANIMATION" type of thing I was expecting from the title. From that stand point it really is a shame, but I'm happy to hear these shows are popping up on netflix, since now I can binge watch em all.

Well, he's got a point. Pokemon took the world by storm. There's not a kid in Romania that wasn't obsessed with it in the 90's.

Here is a bandwagon upon which we can all jump! By virtue of an ever-trusty post hoc inference, I blame the rise of Pokémon for the decline of Cosgrove Hall Films. Gone from our screens are the likes of Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, and, perhaps less notably, Fantomcat. Alas my youth!

So in effect, it was 4kids cut throat tactics of selling a mostly completed product with the only work mainly needed in the form of redubbing the material.
When a group can cut out a significant part of the production budget, of course they can underbid a project.
A similar event happens to the Toonami block in the form of the "Perfect hair forever" shorts which proved similarly that subpar animation with a bizarre narrative would keep enough attention "for the ratings", and more importantly it was cheaper than trying to license anime, this would lead to the rise of ATHF and all other similar low budget works and the hiatus of the Toonami block.

Just speaking for me personally, I loved Pokemon so much as a kid (and still do, to be honest) that I would set an alarm extra early on Saturdays and end up watching whatever was on around it, just to make sure I was fully awake for Pokemon. Had I not been anticipating Ash's latest adventure, I never would've gone to the channel in the first place.
Not claiming this as an argument against this producer's statement or anything, but I have to imagine Pokemon also at least exposed kids to other cartoons and pulled up general ratings for the shows that aired alongside it, in the same way Jump titles do for Toonami shows.

Well remembered! Penguintruth, if you are reading this, you may or may not wish to make a note of such a series.

That reminds me of the opening theme for "Milton the Monster".
