Last weekend I was suprised to find Koji Suzuki's 'ring' novel had been translated to English and was sitting in the 'New Releases' section at Borders.
It spawned the 3 Japanese live-action flicks, Hollywood's 'The Ring', and a manga series. How often do you get the chance to read contemporary Japanese lit that has touched manga? I can't wait to pick it up! ![]() |

I only wish there were more chances. There's a lot of anime/manga that were based on contemp. Japanese literature. I'm hoping that with the surging popularity of manga, that maybe some companies like Del Rey will consider licensing some of the novels that they were based on. Stuff like Battle Royale and Juuni Kokki would be nice to own. |

I'm still holding out hope that the Kino's Journey novel series will be released in English - those of you that have seen the series can probably understand why.

Just some FYI...
Ring and Spiral by Koji Suzuki are both out. Vertical, Inc. is the publisher. They specialize in translating contemporary Japanese fiction, but they do other stuff too (like the Buddha manga by Osamu Tezuka). |

I loved the first Ring book and art, but the second one wasn't as good. I suppose some of my interest was lost.
