Following the success of last year's battle-scarred assortment, Bandai expands the Gundam line to include characters from the new Gundam Seed series, scheduled to air on the Cartoon Network Action Block in April 2004. The new line features deluxe 4.5-inch action figures, 4.5-inch deluxe battle-scarred action figures with dioramas, 7.5-inch action figures, action figures with vehicles, action figure model kits, and a 12-inch Mega Size Gundam.

Pretty surprising since most people figured Seed wouldn't hit until the summer. Well we should take this with a grain of salt. Last year's toy fair had Zeta airing unedited on Midnight run and edited on toonami. Well iguess the internet better prepare for the tidal wave of Seedlings from the toonami airings.

Yes it is pretty suprising. I would have thought Zeta Gundam would air on Cartoon Network first.

That's pretty vague, it doesn't even say if that would be on AS or Toonami. I won't be shocked of that date is pushed back a bit.

Well, the Adult Swim Mon.-Thurs. schedule (i.e. their anime) has been referred to as the "Action Block" for a while now, so they could mean that. Or it might be that Saturday thing that was mentioned recently on AS.

Doubtful, though. April seems too early to me.

Bandai has said that SEED won't be out until the second half of the year. Plus, based on past history, the next Gundam show on Cartoon Network is likely to premiere in late July or early August, not in the spring. That, coupled with the aforementioned questionable track record of the toy fair with announcements of this nature, leads me to believe that it's bunk.

I'm going to bet that when SEED does find its way to Cartoon Network, it's going to be on Adult Swim. It may have some gratuitous violence and an implied sex scene, but all of that can be edited, and the presence of those two things doesn't change the fact that SEED is a kid's show and will likely air on the kid's block.

As for Zeta, the last thing out of Bandai was that there wasn't even a television broadcast contract set for that show. Bandai was apparently not very happy about how First Gundam was treated and Zeta might not air on Cartoon Network at all. Of course, that news is pretty old now, from some anime con last summer, but there has yet to be an announcement to the contrary.

I'm still pulling for Cartoon Network to do with SEED what they did Wing, and give it dual edited/unedited Toonami & Adult Swim runs. You said yourself that a Zeta run is rather unlikely (thus leaving Adult Swim without a Gundam title), and SEED is supposedly Bandai's big "Gundam franchise revival" property, so they'd want to get it out to as many people as they could. Or at least, one would think so.

If you read it slightly differently it could just as easily mean that the figures are coming out in April, not that the show is coming in April. Read it again without the "scheduled to air on the Cartoon Network Action Block" part.

Did you mean Toonami?

I just can't see CN having dual airings. CN in the past has said that they want the blocks to be separate. There isn't much more Cn would accomplish by having it on AS, other than appeasing the anti-editing crowd.

Unless the writer of the sentence is not familiar with proper grammar, that's not a correct way to read the sentence. To have the meaning you're reading into it, there would need to be a comma after the word "Block." Obviously, it is entirely possible that the writer's grammar is bad and that is how it's supposed to be interpreted, but there's nothing on which to base that assumption.

Yeah, I realize that, but it wouldn't be the first time I've seen a typo in a press release.

(edit) Also keep in mind that this press release didn't come from Bandai Entertainment, or Cartoon Network, but rather Bandai of America, the same people that said Zeta was coming to Cartoon Network last year at Toy Fair 2003. Guess we'll know for sure in April.

Well we know March and April is Toonami's spring season. Yu Yu Hakusho is supposedly getting new episodes in March.

And last year they premiered Rurouni Kenshin around the same time. While I seriously doubt that we'll get SEED in April it would definitely be nice.

One last thing does it seem to anyone else that Zeta might be getting pushed aside or on the back burner because of SEED?Once SEED news started coming out like what last July or Aug all news on Zeta disappeared.

That's because SEED is the "spearhead," if you will, of Bandai's big 2004 Gundam...push...thing. They're downplaying Zeta because of the unfortunately lukewarm response that Mobile Suit Gundam got, and are planning on pushing the hell out of SEED because it's the flashy alternate universe series with pretty characters (like Wing, only better). Granted, it's TV run won't be worth half a damn (I know it's a kid's show, but so is Kenshin, and we know how IT turned out on Toonami...), but that's what DVDs are for.

P.S. - Zerp, love the avatar. Eyebrows...! Anime hyper

I know SEED is going to be Bandai's big flagship this year, but
there are still a group people out there who care about UC Gundam stuff and would like updates now and again.

Also I do have thank CN for showing Kenshin even in its hacked and slashed form. Was enough for me to see it like it and buy the box set that just came out and the remaining ones. Only 2 and half more months before the Kyoto box.

Thats the best part I think about anime on tv. Ofcourse they are going to edit it but its almost like a sampler or a test drive. So you don't go wasting your money on buying a couple volumes of some anime you've never heard of. Or have to fuss with the whole fansub thing.

Well, honestly, if we're going to get Gundam back on Bandai's A-list we've got to see SEED sell ten tons of model kits and rake in big ratings. It's doable, thanks to the general prettiness of the series. and it's necessary.

Personally speaking, I'm not a big fan of SEED (I think it's pretty good, but have issues with the flashy look and nondistinct character designs) but I think that it's the one series in the Gundam stable that can reignite the same levels of interest as Gundam Wing.

Though, honestly, I think After War Gundam X would hook a couple of people.
