IMO there really should be a place (perhaps just one thread) for something as obviously useful as a trade/sale/annoucement thread amongst individual collectors on ANN. It can work like Craigslist where you can post if you an individual, and only registered users could reply to the posters offer/questions. Naturally their information and/or replies would not be posted it would be sent directly to the posters anon email or directly to their visible email. Now also like Craigslist, ANN would not be legally responsible for the content of the posts/offers. Futhermore ANN would not be involved in any process of the any transactions (this is strictly between the poster and the user). Essentially responsible users and honesty is paramount inorder to make this proposal a reality. I wish to stress this does work on Craigslist so, please do not think I am merely blowing smoke. People do this for selling items, giving items away for free, jobs, selling property and community events. This wonderful setup really works in reality! Heck, I even found my current job thanks to a posting.
However, I do suggest if you are a user representing a company/business group, I propose you need to register and pay for the right to post. And what exactly might the businesses post in this specific ANN area? Well perhaps pre-orders, specials/sales, announcements for their sites. More importantly, ANN could directly aid in the promotion of purchasing licensed anime products (in this example I am referring exclusively to dvds). IMO implementing this proposal can help offset the overhead costs of ANN and the information will reach the "correct target audience". Afterall who is average visitor at ANN? Stockbrokers? Gardeners? Cooks? Actors? Wrong on all accounts. The average visitor is a youth interested in anime/manga and tends to fit the age profile of the early teens to late-twenties. Also, IMHO business that use those banner ads really do not "direct traffic" anymore than pop-ups or unwanted spam offers supposedly help. A "updated" thread area (for the businesses) would contain new information and most importantly be conveniently accessible to all ANN users/visitors.
ANN should offer more services and encourage the anime community to help one another to promote anime. Since part of the information users do discuss is upcoming titles, trends, opinions etc, it is only naturally for them to inquire where can I get xyz. However, IMHO one of the best ways is to introduce current fans to new titles which they will hopefully introduce to others. A individual posting/listing/trade or sale thread would also help strengthen the anime community. Just my two cents, when time permits please consider it ANN.

I removed his post and emailed him to thank him for attempting to steal our readers.
Also, "witty" is not something you call yourself. Wit is something that someone else tells you you have. Morons.
The site is incredibly slow-loading and, notably, has no 'witty' content.

ANN already offers more services than any other anime site out there and at no obligation. If people want to share links they can go to Anipike, that's what they're there for.
Really, you don't go to T.G.I Fridays and hand out McDonalds menus to everyone do you? How is this any different?

I disagree. "Stealing" your readers? Is that what you're afraid of? It just shows you as insecure (no offence). I, too am against self-advertising on the messageboards but not because of the reason you provided. It's just annoying. By the way, almost every popular site that I visit has a links section (that they enourage people to check out). It's not like people are going to stop visiting this site because of some other site they can just visit them both. It's not like anime sites are very hard to find nowdays.
Don't get me wrong I love this site and I appreciate everyone's hard work. And there was no reson for calling poster a "moron". It was just mean. Yes, it's not smart to call oneself "witty" (in fact it's downright in poor taste). But the guy had a new site and he just wanted to promote it (which he should'nt have done but let's give this guy a brake maybe something good comes out of it. He even has a DVD contest.) and advertisers use tactics like that all the time . Whether or not his site was really witty or not is just a metter of one's opinion.
Just my 2 cents...

I'd say that we do not allow self-promotion in this sort of manner because it's distracting from the purpose of this board -- which is to discuss _anime_.
Posting your own personal site is NOT discussing anime, nor is it contributing to someone else's discussion.
For someone who posts their website in this fashion, odds are also good that they won't be returning, and as such they don't contribute anything at all to the forum, except take up a few kb of the forum database.
In short, posts like this are completely vacuous and therefore have no purpose on this board. Posts like "I like X show. Do you like X show too?" at least have a tiny speck of relevance. The poster will also probably come back and read the replies of the thread they've started.
Anywho, this thread's locked.
