What's the point of censoring hentai? They clearly sticker it's meant for only adults. I can understand maybe hentai that have the addressing of kiddy porn. And on that note, in general, is there a difference between saying anime that's uncut and anime that's unedited? In other words, what's the difference between editing and cutting an anime?

I think editing and cutting are acronyms of each other in reference to media, just a wild guess.
And as for the hentai thing, I'm not sure why they censor it but it doesn't concern me since I don't look at it. |

It has something to do with Japanese censorship laws, I believe. Now whether the law makes sense or not, well...
It's Japan, what can I say? 
Now, if you mean in the US, I can't say I have much -- or any -- experience with the US market for said products. Though considering how the US anime market has a long history of nonsensical censorship and editing, I wouldn't try to make much sense out of it anyway. It's some sort of law in Japan regarding that kind of personal exposure. I don't know why they make porn if it's just going to get cut apart (they have to censor both regular porn and hentai) but I suppose it still makes money anyway. I assume that they have the understanding that others are going to uncensor it outside of (or even inside) Japan after the sale or they somehow get around it sometimes.

Hentai is censored when it released in Japan because Japanese law forbids openly displaying male or female genitalia. Live action pornography obscures the genitalia by pixellating the relative areas.
Editing and cutting: And example of an edit would be when Tenchi Muyo! was first shown on American television, and they drew swimsuits onto the nude characters for the onsen scenes. An example of a cut would be if they had removed the entire onsen scene from the broadcast episode. |

That happens with hentai animation, too, although U.S. companies remove it for their releases. This has, of course, occasionally led to problems with reverse importation of hentai titles by Japanese fans. |

Japanese law may have issues with genitalia but then you would need to explain doujinshi since a lot of it is hentai. I've stumbled across
the "naughty bits" on the web (mostly by chance and not intentional). |

Censorship laws aren't nationally-enforced, they're determined by prefecture. Sort of like the legal driving age in America. In many places, they don't even enforce any type of censorship, but the laws are so ill-defined that most studios fully censor their material because no single studio can afford the fines.

Because it's OK to show animated women spoiler[getting raped by tentacle monsters, hung up in the ceiling, tied up so her openings are, er, open, humiliated into performing acts of scatology, inserting foreign objects, sucking semen off the floor, choking down penises and gang raped by demons]. But it's not OK to see an actual penis or vagina used in normal sex. Ironic. |

The point of censoring hentai is...
...to make people who don't watch hentai feel better about themselves? I mean, really, why is the spoiler[fabricated gang rape of a schoolgirl] fair game, but showing uncensored consensual sex is unacceptable? I can't think of any other reason for this illogical situation. I know Japan is a different culture and everything, but this is just silly in my view and it's never made any sense to me. But, Japan is full of illogical nonsense like this and the more you learn about Japan the less sense it makes. Not that I'm even against spoiler[fabricated gang rape], if that's your thing so be it, but from a logical perspective what does the digital mosaic accomplish? Everyone knows what's going on, if seeing it is bad then adding the digital mosaic isn't going to accomplish anything at all. |

The best is still doujinshi censoring, little black bars, sometimes white, often partially faded so they basically obscure nothing, even better is that the bars are so small, they basically cover nothing anyway.
The weirdest method though has to be re-colourisation or 'glowing' where the penis is itself changed from flesh tones to something like bright red or is made into a glowing white 'heavenly spear' to coin a fansub... |
