I have recently heard that an american named Justin Leach is an animator in Japan. He is working for Production I.G. and worked on Ghost In The Shell: Innosence. I think this is a very lucky guy. I too want to become an animator in the anime industry. Hopefully if Im lucky it will happen someday.

Actually, he was an animator in Japan.
He has since returned to the USA. But I would agree that he was a lucky guy. If I was an animator I would kill for the chance to work at Production I.G, even if it was for only a short while. Like him though, I'm sure that after a while I'd want to return home. Like everything else, it loses its luster after a while. I.G is very big on interacting with foreigners, after Justin they hired several more foreigners (I know of one from France and one from Korea). If you were looking for a job in the Anime industry over there, I.G would be your best bet. Justin isn't the only person to have worked there. Jan Scott Frazier is the most famous, he also worked at I.G as well as numerous other places. Cindy Yamaouchy worked in Japan, came back, and has returned to Japan. She's actually the most successful American working in Japanese animation., and a very interesting person to talk to (someday I'll get an interview with her on the site). Most recently she worked as the Animation Director on Gungrave. Slightly OT, but ANN's Dan42 works as a programmer at a Japanese telecom company, and Cookie will also be heading to Japan this summer, but only for a few months. -t |
