I'm gonna go to Barns n Noble some time soon and I need a new manga book. The last 2 I picked up were Death Note vol. 1 and MAR vol. 1. I liked MAR, but Death Note was ok. Do you have any suggestions? And I don't want to start a series thats gonna cost me a fortune to read, such as Naruto or Bleach. And I was also wondering if Claymore, Initial D, and Fruits Basket were good ones.

Well you might want to at the very least start off by even telling us what you like (titles and favorites genres) so we even had some sort of comparison to go by. Otherwise there's no real way to give you any real good ideas that you would like. Just one problem....no recommendation threads are allowed except for the official ones which brings me to my point for this post in a thread I know will be locked. We're in the process of making the official threads in the anime section to go along with Dan's new encyclopedia search engine correct? Would it not be fair to create a few, only one handful (that's 5 for most of us not missing a finger, or with an extra one) at max, for the manga section? Moderator input please?

I second the motion of having genre recommendations for manga as well. I think that it's a good idea and will be just as helpful in the Manga section as it is in the Anime section.

Thirded. I feel it's harder to search for a good manga than it is to find a good anime. The anime forum has always been more lively than the manga forum, however.

Well, I just finished Death Note 3 and am eager to read the next one, so I'd recommend continuing the series.
Fruits Basket isn't that good in my opinion. I'm in the middle of the 7th one, and one of the characters is REALLY annoying. She's trying to decide between two guys, Kyo and Yuki. I already know whats going to happen...so I don't think I'm going to finish it.
Well. What genre do you like? I rarely read shonen...

Romance, action, a little comedy, si-fi, slice of life. Some that I like are Blood+, MAR, Bleach, Death Note, Samurai Champloo, and I'm gonna later look into Cowboy Bebop, Fruits Basket, Initial D, and Claymore.

i always say this, but i would reccomend Black Cat. it really picked up in the fourth book. i have spend a fair ammount of money on the series, but i think it is worth it. it combines mild comedy, action, and there is always suspence.
then i would reccomend inuyasha, but the whole series is more thatn $200...so that is obviously out.
