I'm super sorry if there's a thread already for this, I couldn't find one...
The first part just came out on fansubs... what did everyone here think about it? Required picture: You're just a *bit* too tall for the swing there Digiko. My impression: (spoiler'd just in case.) spoiler[ Digiko seems to have lost her selfishness, but Puchiko stays wonderfully herself and funny, though she's defintley no longer quiet. And... she's a manga-ka? And Usada's an actress... and seems to have lost her dice! Her role looks pretty cameo to me though. Somewhere someone called this bittersweet, but I don't see what they're talking about. This is totally fluffy, what with the seeing him so many times within a week. Or maybe it's the second part that's bittersweet? (It isn't subbed yet...) PUCHIKO WORKS AT MCDONALDS?! wtf?! Digiko and Puchiko are never named... and Aiko annoys the hell out of me! Past my intial reactions, WG seems uber-cute! Anything DiGiCharat related is awesome, of course. Puchiko and Digiko are cute even when they're older. Nit-picks: The transition from Digiko saying she doesn't like him to blatantly admitting it to Puchiko is pretty.... um... non-existant... and... I was unaware that you could go out wearing long-sleeves and a short skirt (plus a scarf, of course) in winter. When it was snowing. Without freezing or even acting cold. Even when you trip and land on ice.] |

Wtf? Someone actually subbed this? Geez, they sure are fast to sub this, yet no one has subbed even a single episode of Di Gi Charat Nyo (would MUCH rather that be subbed)... Guess I'll have to see this then...

....throughout the entire episode I couldn't find the DiGi or the Charat. How this was squeezed out DiGi Charat is beyond me seeing as how outside of character designs there's virtually no resemblance. Dejiko isn't even the same character. We've gone from a spoiled brat to what I'm assuming is an ideal Japanese woman (gotta attract male viewers somehow). The only thing about Puchiko that was kept was her bluntness, she is much more forward and engaging in this series. I was hoping that at least the store Takurou was helping build/remodel would be a video game store (particularly Gamers), but no instead it turns out he works for an interior decorating place. The woman who also lives with him (I'm guessing that was Aiko), is his girlfriend I presume, yet he's starting a relationship with Dejiko, a girl he just met? There's a certain flow of logic that I'm missing here, or maybe this is some common "boy meets girl" plotline in shoujo that I'm unfamiliar with (don't have much experience with that genre).
DiGi Charat has always been a guilty pleasure for me, and while I'm certainly not a huge fan of it I do find the material enjoyable, so seeing this just makes me wonder who thought it was a good idea to revamp the franchise in such a manner? What's even more disconcerting, is the fact that (as previously stated) not only are Dejiko, Puchiko, and Rabi En Rose left un-named, but the show is simply referred to as "Winter Garden" with no mention of DiGi Charat being in the title. It's as if someone had an idea for a mediocre show but had no idea of how to get in on air/ sell it.. So they managed to get the DiGi Charat name (somehow) which was enough to get the show off the ground. At this point nothing about this title says DiGi Charat other than the character designs (not even the characters themselves). The only connection I'm making is that given Takurou's goals of making it as a troupe Dejiko will join him and be on her way to stardom. At that point her popularity will rise threatening the Rabi En Rose character, and thus a rivalry will ensue. Maybe such reinventions are a part of fandom in Japan that I don't understand, but how fans who are loyal, or at least trust, the name DiGi Charat to be accepting of this (unless most DiGi Charat fans are shoujo buffs, which I doubt) is beyond me. With such reinventions, I would think part of the enjoyment would be all of the connections made with previous incarnations. I'm just not seeing any level of merit and I agree with PantsGoblin in that if the subbers have an interest in the DiGi Charat franchise they should have gone with Nyo. |

TranceLimit174 pretty much stole the words right out of my mouth...
But, I wasn't expecting much out of this in the first place when I heard Hiroaki Sakurai was directing it, a director who obviously excels at comedy. When I heard it was only going to be two episodes long it pretty much ruined my hopes of this being any good... Jesus, if Broccoli wants to produce a good serious romance anime, why the hell aren't they doing it with Galaxy Angel? They already have the story, characters, seiyuu, etc. set up for them with the games and everything... All they need to do is animate it, god... |

Well then, I just watched this and I actually liked the way the characters looked in this. In fact I like the character design and animation quite a bit, reminds me of The Tale of Little Monica.
That aside, what the hell is this? The characters didn't even act the same, I mean it's more real world here but at least they could've made them inharently wacky, but on a down to earth kind of way. Dejiko was like the perfect person in a man's mind, that's not her!! Jamnit, and Puchiko was too "blehh" sounding the whole time. And how the hell does she draw a full colored, four panel manga skit with one marker? And why didn't she join the Facial Hair Club?!?! At least she could've given the Music Clubs door sign a guitar, it looked like it really wanted one. Anyway, I love DiGi Charat and was slightly angry at this show for making the characters too different and the story pretty boring. |

Just watched Ep.2 and the only thing good was Puchiko spoiler[hiding and standing in front of the customers at McDonalds.] I thought that was funny.
Besides that, everything was soo predictable, you knew what was going to happen before it did, and Puchikos band wasn't even good after dawging on the other bands. Booo... And how many episodes is this? Because if there supposed to be only 2, this show fails even more. I may not like it but you can't end it like that. |

I just finished watching the anime as well. Just like Iwatch2muchanime said, almost every part of it is predictable. Yes, I even knew that spoiler[ it was his sister].. =P But well, overall the anime's pretty amusing considering on it's length and i like the opening/ending theme as well.
I like the show, there is no need for more episodes, the plot is just too simple for another one. Let's just say at the ending, they spoiler[had a talk about the misunderstanding, and the girl felt happy and decided to stay with him OR! the guy decided to go with her and lived together happily ever after.] |

I must edmit that I was furious that they wanted to change dejiko so much. However I decided to watch it...and it wasn't that bad at all. In fact, I really liked it Okay, so dejiko is almost a completely different person, but hey, people can grow up lots in 10 years, and it's an alternate universe anyway. Is it so wrong for dejiko to try and find love???
The main thing I was disappointed in was that Rabi en Rose had just 2 scenes that were...what...10 seconds long each? She was my fav character in the original, but it was disappointing to see so little of her. But none the less, Dejiko's name was used, and so was Puchiko. The animation is still cute, and quite a bit of emotions came through spoiler[like when dejiko cried, you would feel sorry for her...except for those bright sods out there that realised what relation Aiko was to that guy who I can't remember the name of], it was still funny at times (just not that insane funny that we get from Di Gi Charat) and was still sweet to watch. Well this ain't the first time we see a different Dejiko anyway (anyone remember Di Gi Charat fantasy when she lost her memory??? and that was in the same universe). If it helps, just think of the characters as someone completely different, maybe you'll find you'll enjoy the series more (that's what I did with Tsubasa Chronicles), but anyway I reckon WG is pretty good. By the way, anyone knows what's up with that Dejiko and Puchiko's picture from the original series being on Dejiko's shelf? Is it there to imply something??? |

A stupid guess on my part is that it's there to serve as a placemarker. Nothing else. Without it there is virtually no connection between this show's incarnations of the two main characters and those seen in the past. It's like the cover of the OST CD which has a picture of grown-up Dejiko with a very little doll of 10 year-old Dejiko in front of her. Personally I got a small chuckle the time Aiko saw Rabi-en-Rose, said she was a TV star and then wasn't able to come up with her name. That was a very soft poke in the ribs at the original character. |
