This just feels really abrupt, well hopefully it ends in a good way and not a rush ending.

The announcement is sort of abrupt but like the manga wrapped up most of it's stuff and we've just been getting victory lap chapters. I would love to have more victory lap chapters but I also understand the author just wanting to end it on this high instead of just having it run circles.

This almost feels like an axe. Did the popularity of the manga drop a ton or something like that or is the author having health issues?

I know they finally spoiler[started dating] and a lot of these romcom like to end instantly as soon as that happens but this is going to be leaving a ton of plot threads hanging such as the whole fallout from the Haniel cosplay and Gojo being recognized for his skill.

I almost have to wonder if the editor is just pulling the plug because they spent so long jerking us around with that last arc.

Nah it didn't drop popularity, people are mentioning health issues but never seen a source for that one. It just feels like the author wanted to end it now on a quasi high point instead of becoming a cosplay date kanokari, that would be really grim. I also think it's fine for those minor plot threads not to be resolved, granted I would argue the Gojo one wasn't even one in the first place.

I hope the last chapter ends well, I'll be sad to see this series go.

This is a Seinen manga so you have a fan service wish fulfillment aspect to juggle, you have the wishes of the female readers that jumped on when the IP grew out of its containment zone with the anime (notice how the accidental harem aspects are abandoned) and you lastly have the cosplay aspect. The author doesn´t have the talent or interest to dig in and find the gem underneath all the bloat and mess and only the cosplay aspects ever worked as that´s where the author's passion was judging by the omake material. Pleasing no one was the only outcome. Especially if you are aware of the incest comedy she wrote before that never had the balls to commit to featuring incest, not even in its finale. Its last chapter could have been the second chapter despite a 10-volume runtime. Her follow-up work is better in that aspect but the 15 volumes feature maybe 7 volumes of actual material and no 3rd act.

The first 3rd is the anime, the 2nd is meandering filler, and the third opens up all sorts of subplots or themes (fame) that of course can´t go anywhere now. The legacy of the manga is destined to become a what could have been scenario but it already started horrendously so it limped from the start. This is the type of story that deserves a remake by someone who knows and wants to write about relationships but we will simply keep getting the usual (Shounen) mega-hit readaptations.

I'm in sorrow. There were so many more good times to be had. Like at least another volume, yeesh.

I’m behind on the manga, but I didn’t realize it was that close to ending. I’ll need to catch up on it sometime.

As someone who has been reading it, the final chapter announcement does feel a bit abrupt.

It is true that there isn't really any plot threads left and it wasn't like the series was building up to anything apart from the one thing which the author has already done recently.

So technically the final chapter makes sense but it felt like the author could have gone on for a bit more.

Oh well, might as well end on a high note right?

I've still been enjoying it.
