Not sure why the article omits her career as an extremely popular idol. She had an incredible run of hits with every one of her singles reaching the Oricon top 10 singles chart from 1985 through to 1994, including five number one singles in a row from October 1987 through to February 1989.

Personally, I'm surprised she never had a single anisong, with the long career she's had.

I thought this name and she looks familiar to me, that's because her younger sister, Shinobu, was not only a pop idol, but also a well-known actress. Shinobu, the younger sister of Miho was in the Heisei Gamera film trilogy (particularly, the 1st and the 3rd Heisei Gamera film). She also played a very minor character in Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla II. One of her other most famous role beside the Gamera trilogy film, was playing the love interest of Jet Li's character in the 1994 film, Fist of Legend. You know the remake of one of Bruce Lee's classic film. But I'm focusing too much on her younger sister. But it's so sad to see Miho passing away at the age of 54 years old, I hope we find out what caused her death. My condolences goes out to her families, including her sister, Shinobu. Now I probably know why ANN reported on Miho's passing, I take it this connects to her younger sister (who worked on several stuff that anime fans may have dabbled with).
ANN, beside Deadline Hollywood's article you cited in your article. Miho's death was reported by several mainstream media in the US/west: Variety LA Times The Guardian UK I didn't know her fame and her passing was deemed worthy enough for several mainstream entertainment news to report on her passing away. Again, RIP to Miho and my condolences goes out to her younger sister. Last edited by mdo7 on Sat Dec 07, 2024 6:04 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Then why mention her other film roles? They have nothing to do with anime or manga either. The reason why she was chosen for the role in Be-Bop High School was in part because of her popularity as an idol. You'll note that every other story about her in English on news websites actually mention her music career. |

Other than the live action movie, I can't find much anime-related works in her list, other than that she performed three insert songs in White Album(2009)? Still, too young, R.I.P. I'm myself around that age so that was a gust of reality in the face...
Is 2024 going full Reaper mode for the rest of the year? |

She was also the title character and love interest of one of the first ever dating sim games as a collab between square and nintendo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakayama_Miho_no_Tokimeki_High_School, the brainchild of the metroid and final fantasy creators.

The older I get, the younger I see a lot of people deaths are when it shows their age.

And I just realized and found out that Miho may have started the dating sim (& Bishojo game) genre video game with this 1987 title: Nakayama Miho no Tokimeki High School/Miho Nakayama's Heartbeat High School (here's the CM video for the game featuring her). This title help influence and created the modern-day dating sim game, now I understand how she is sort of connected to anime/manga fandom. Her involvement in creating the dating sim and bishojo game genre.
That game not only starred Miho herself, but the game had 2 famous designers: Hironobu Sakaguichi (the creator of Final Fantasy), and Yoshio Sakamoto (creator of the Metroid franchise), Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy's composer) was one of the composer for that game. So that's why her death's is significant amongst anime/manga fans, it's not only because of her sister being featured in the Heisei Gamera films (2 of them), but now today I learned Miho helped created the dating sim/bishojo game genre. Now her death carried more significence amongst anime/manga fandom. If it wasn't for her, dating sim genre may not have existed today, so for those of you that played dating sim game, you may want to thank Miho Nakayama for why this genre exist, so the genre owes a lot to her. |
