Femio is the greatest one shot character in history.
I consider the ending, including Ahiru's fate, to be perfect though explaining why more than saying "because of what Drosselmeyer was to the story and what motivated him" would be spoilers. Yes, spoilers for a show that is pushing a quarter century old but since the author of this piece didn't give any, I guess I cannot.
Thinking about this show makes me a bit nostalgic for when:
1. a lot more high profile shojo anime was being made
2. shows regularly had 24-50 episodes
3. there were a lot more absolutely bonkers off the wall shows like this, and this show wasn't even Satoshi Kon/Mamoru Oshii surrealism or a parody

Finally, for a magical girl show, it had A LOT of stuff that should have interested boys. A shame that it wasn't a bigger hit because if it had been, more multi-demo magical girl show imitators (no, the grown men who watch Pretty Cure and Prisma Illya don't count) would have followed. Lots of the big shonen shows have girls in the same age group as a major demo. Naruto cultivated this by design, for example. Would have been great if Princess Tutu done the same for shojo.

There are some baseline similarities for my favorite anime series, Sailor Moon, with Ahiru and Usagi both floundering academically and lacking confidence only to be thrust into the spotlight as a girl with a heavy destiny (they're also both named after animals).

Though I'm also fond of Freya, played by a young Mamiko Noto, whose biggest role at the time had been Rin in Inuyasha. Might partly be spillover from her episode also being Uzura's debut episode.

I still remember the shock, on first viewing, when spoiler[one’s view of Fakir did a 180 from villain to hero].

The change in tone that came with the transition from first season to second season was also striking.

I'm a big fan of Ikuko Itoh's artwork and having met her, Tutu is her favorite series that she has worked on. It has a lot of gorgeous animation and is basically like watching elements of all the Sailor Moon episodes she worked on but in an entirely different series.

I hate the ending. The bittersweet aspect doesn't bother me, but Mythos's reasoning for choosing the partner that he did didn't sit well for me. The whole "she was willing to suffer more, so that means she loves me" reasoning just reeks of toxicity and ruined some characters for me.

That being said, I would love for a continuation of Ahiru and Fakir's story, even if it's just an episode or two.

It's been a while since I've seen this, but I remember enjoying it quite a bit, especially the use of classical music, which I loved Smile

The last set of episodes meaders a bit as we watch Fakir not write

Is this a typo of "meanders"?
