Not gonna lie, any news from Sakurai that isn't switch 2's Smash will have a hard time getting me excited. I don't mind if the potential sequel is lesser in scope like he said at one point, I just want some hope that it will exist.

Yune Amagiri^ Speak for yourself, but I would love anything from the guy. Sakurai-sensei deserves a blank check from Nintendo at this point to do any game project he wants. He's not a one-trick pony. While Smash Bro's does not do Mario Kart numbers, it's up there with Zelda (after BotW) and main line Mario Games with Splatoon not far off the future being Nintendo's main moneymakers. Still, I think he should make something he wants to make because that's when he's at his best. Dude went through hell with the smash fandom.

Would be nice if it's something new.
But you'd know that Nintendo also wants a Smash for Switch 2. Although at this point I'd just have a re-release of Switch Smash with all DLC characters and then some included, whilst offering Switch 1 purchasers the option to just buy the new characters and a patch to play with Switch 2 users.

Pretty sure they’ll make one as every Nintendo console has had a Smash game. And not just going to not do one and break the chain.

He mentions having written several books on game design, with an onscreen note pointing out that they're Japanese-only. It'd be great if one of the many light novel companies took a swing at translating a few of these and bringing them out in English, though I'm not holding my breath (I seem to recall J-Novel Club saying that sales of the Mari Okada autobiography were deeply disappointing, so maybe nonfiction is a nonstarter here).
