After months of waiting, chapter 1000 is finally adapted. I had expected it around episode 1010 (I was being generous) based on the content they were adaptating. The staff accepted my challenge and it still ended up at 1015. Congrats to them. An expected increase from last week's 2.9 rating (the return from the hack hiatus), but low rating as expected. No marketing was done by Toei like they went all out for Episode 1000, which had a 4.2 rating. Had they adapted chapter 1000 on episode 1000 (they had the opportunity to do this & don't act like the show isn't 10 years overdue to go on break so whether they did it or not doesn't change this fact), it definitely would have had a higher rating than 4.2 because that would be double the incentive to watch. Oh well.

Is the book Love All Play is based on really popular or something? Or is it purely riding off the lucrative pre-Conan timeslot?

Though come to think of it, I guess the fact that it got that timeslot suggests they had reason to expect an audience for it. That's the timeslot they've used for MHA, Yashahime, the Touch sequel, Ace Attorney, Time Bokan 24... hell, I've never heard of Hakushon Daimaō, but if they were willing to do a 50th anniversary reboot of it at all, it's probably got some kind of significance.

It's the Conan timeslot, it's actually a pretty low rating for that timeslot as well. Doesn't really matter what's on it, low 3s to high 2s is about as low as I can remember that going.

I had forgotten until I dug deeper, but they used it for Ultimate Otaku Teacher back in 2015! And it only ranked in the top 10 at all for 9 out of 24 episodes. Don't know what the people at Nippon TV were thinking there.

For anyone who's curious about what we're talking about, NTV seems to have started airing anime in that timeslot (Saturdays at 17:30, right before Detective Conan) with Space Brothers in spring 2013, which moved from a Sunday morning timeslot after its first year. Space Brothers aired for another full year, and since then every anime to air in that slot has been two cours, spring/summer or fall/winter. The complete list since SB:

  • Spring 2022: Love All Play
  • Fall 2021: Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon - The Second Act
  • Spring 2021: My Hero Academia S5
  • Fall 2020: Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon
  • Spring 2020: Hakushon Daimaō 2020
  • Fall 2019: My Hero Academia S4
  • Spring 2019: Mix
  • Fall 2018: Ace Attorney S2
  • Spring 2018: My Hero Academia S3
  • Fall 2017: Time Bokan: The Villains Strike Back
  • Spring 2017: My Hero Academia S2
  • Fall 2016: Time Bokan 24
  • Spring 2016: Ace Attorney
  • Fall 2015: The File of Young Kindaichi Returns S2
  • Spring 2015: Ultimate Otaku Teacher
  • Fall 2014: Magic Kaito 1412
  • Spring 2014: The File of Young Kindaichi Returns

So I'm guessing Love All Play is going to be two cours as well, and then maybe MHA will come back in the fall.
