With all the talk recently of Microsoft trying to buy a Japanese game company, these developments sound like the kind of a thing a company would do to get bought by a company who has no interest in the non Video Game parts of the company.

First off, that new logo is weeeeeak. They should've just adapted the game's division logo for the entire company. Red, black and overly making things overly simple is such an awful trend since it homoginizes every company together in a big blob.
Second and third, sucks this happened on the company's 50th. Didn't they just establish Sunrise Beyond as a studio in the last two years? This just seems counter productive since almost everybody knows Sunrise has multiple studios with their own quirks and style. I think they also did this before, with regards to the studios and that did Battle Spirits and Gintama.
Wonder if it basicallly comes down to beiqng easier on the finacial work.

I wouldn't necessarily read too much into this. As the recounting in the article partially demonstrates, this is a massive company with a myriad of disparate pieces. It's nothing unusual for an organization to occasionally rework its organizational structure, especially on the backend of a disruptive economic period (as pandemics tend to be) and when nearing or just passing a major age milestone (like turning 50). Barring other evidence, this doesn't really suggest that they're setting themselves up for a sale.

Nah this is usually done to reduce costs by making redundant positions and letting people go.

This is really weird, I'd like to know in detail what is happening inside Bandai-Namco, it seems like they're doing great in the toy, videogame and anime markets but I heard rumors about some changes happening inside the company.
I know that Sunrise was accquired by Bandai a long time ago but I'm going to miss the Sunrise name, I just hope that they update their animated logo with Haro from Gundam. When I think of Sunrise I always remembers shows like Gundam, Inuyasha, Gintama, Code Geass, Cowboy Bebop and many more.

I'm just curious if this will effect their anime output at all.

The name "Sunrise" isn't going anywhere. While there is some general confusion online regarding all of this news, ANN does clarify in the article itself:
Quote: | Bandai Namco Holdings emphasized in its press release that it will still use and develop the individual brand name of Sunrise |
Bandai Namco, aside from confirming the immensely generic new logo, is just consolidating all of its various anime-related studios into one overarching division, Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc., whereas before they were split up across multiple divisions. The individual studios will still operate as they always have, and will keep their original names.

ANN really should have clarified with this directly from the press release:
Quote: | Specifically, this will entail combining the visual business operations of three companies (SUNRISE INC., visual business of BANDAI NAMCO Arts Inc., and BANDAI NAMCO Rights Marketing Inc.) into one company with SUNRISE INC. as the surviving company. |

Noooooooooooooooooo! I had a feeling something like this was coming. Branding all of their companies a Bandai Namco has been annoying for awhile now, I really started to take note when they split off some of Sunrise to form BNP. Now they're just relegated to a brand name.

Yeah, it's like what happened to Lantis. Lantis as a company no longer exists but the Lantis name is still used in marketing for Bandai Namco Arts artists like JAM Project and Granrodeo.
