It's absolutely wild to see well known auction houses (read: Not Heritage Auctions) selling anime cels. First it was Sotheby's Hong Kong and now Bonham...it all blows my mind as a long term anime cel collector because, for decades, they went under the radar of the auction world.
Good luck to those who decided to participate. I honestly don't feel that the Sailor Moon cel is worth the estimated price of $2-3K. Edit - I am tempted to sign up to the Zoom crash course on all things anime to hear about how to preserve cels. I've only been collecting them for 15+ years so I can't wait to hear what the experts have to say lol Store them in mylar bags ![]() |

As a former used & rare bookseller (and a sometime student book conservation), I can assure you that length of time collecting is no guarantee of knowledge of handling & conservation. |

I agree, however I, along with many other production artwork collectors, have done lengthy research into the subject. We know better than to put cels into mylar bags. |

All these auctions are doing is driving up the cost of cels. i used to be able to go to conventions and pick up 5 or 6 Key Frames for around $200 but now one of thoose same cels or even an in-between goes for several grand at auction.

A bunch of new ones have been uploaded (120ish). They're pretty much all $500 minimum, with a majority in the thousands. |
