My family is still bitter that they talked about the cool mineral show and then we never got to see it.

I would describe the anime as pretty to look at, and mostly watchable, but Seigi is excruciatingly annoying at many times. Then he gets a rather patronizing lecture from Richard that's just lightly off tone - for example, he's quite intrusive and often inappropriate at the clients but Richard never seems to mind that. And we kept wondering why Seigi was allowed to dress like such a slob at work, particularly when Richard is so elegant.

I liked watching Richard and Seigi interact and I could have used more of that with fewer interruptions by the clients. Maybe with more about the minerals and the jewelry trade. The episode where they interact with con artists was perhaps my favorite.

There were times when it felt so promising but just sort of kept missing the mark. It wasn't a waste of time, but I had higher hopes. I agree that I was surprised it didn't end two episodes sooner. It's not that the last episodes were bad, just that I didn't feel that they particularly advanced the story.

Shocked I forgot to mention that! It's definitely an odd omission in the show, given the ostensible subject matter, but I feel like the gemstones angle may have been more of a conceit to bring the characters together than as major a plot device as the title would suggest.

I do wonder if it was in the novels - has anyone read them?

I've read a bit of the fantranslation of the light novels - from what I recall, the gemstones are more of a plot device to tease out the client's underlying socio-personal issues and its resolution of them (although there'a a fair bit of discussion on jewels and their symbolic meanings).

Structure-wise, the story's an anthology format of various cases - the 1st book has 4 client/jewel of the week arcs. And yes, the anime did make some cuts, esp. in Mami's arc (there was a subplot where Mami's lesbian ex-partner - a fiery, brash lady - also finds Mami after months of searching and adds to the growing drama; esp. since Mami up and left her without a word one day.)

This show reminded me a lot of 2018's Kyoto Holmes which had a similar approach where it ended up being more of a drama of the week type of show in spite of setting it's premise up initially to be about antiques. Though I personally liked Jeweler Richard a bit more than Kyoto Holmes.

I really liked this one and would buy it if it ever came out on video

Some of the episodic stories were enjoyable (I think I liked the one about the cat best) but I admit the main reason I enjoyed this one was the relationship between between Richard and Seigi.
