I would have preferred that he was either in his late 20s or early 30s but I guess, I take old man Kindaichi.

I haven't seen or read any of the original kindaichi, but this looks like it could bean interesting story, and worth checking out if it comes over.

OMG. I've read the the entirety of the original series. (Athough plenty of details are now missing from my memory.) So I'd really, really love to read this.
As a 37 year old guy, I wonder how much he still remembers his grandpa.
