WTF! He'll learn patience in prison? He needs a daily dose of

Unfortunate that Mayu's dreams were crushed over this.

Understatement, she can barely eat as well.
He needs institutionalization for 14 years, prison won't do anything for a deranged man like him, he'll go free and try to kill again.

She's lucky he didn't hit any of the major arteries or the heart for that matter. Hopefully she can can recover and continue her career. Best wishes to her.

Locking him away in a facility isn't much better.

I feel so bad for that girl, going through all that. And I feel 14 years is just too light a sentence given the brutality of the attack.
Hopefully Mayu's dreams really aren't cut short and she is able to return to the stage and to fulfill her dreams.

Luckily she's also a songwriter, so if nothing else other people can still make the music she writes. There was, um, a M*A*S*H episode like that.

But a dedicated mental health facility should be better at rehabilitating him than a prison. Emphasis on "should". Obviously that's nowhere near always the case, somewhat like well run public schools.
It reminds me, there was a crime that got a lot of buzz, and I won't say what it was because it was heinous enough that it would understandably bias most people, but the perp was very obviously severely mentally ill and even the police were like "yeah we wish we could just let the family kill him but the law says he has to go to a mental health facility, dang". Oddly, this case seems to dismiss mental illness in the opposite way, not treating it severely enough. Learn patience? What the heck?
Feels like a classic case of Japan's cultural repression on openly acknowledging unseemly things, treating him like someone who just needs to be forced to conform to society better, but that's not how it works.

That is not going to happen. He needs to suffer for his crime against her. No easy way out.

Whether it is a prison facility or a mental institution, as long as he serves his full sentence doesn’t matter to me. Don’t know how it is in Japan, but in the U.S., mental institutions can be a get out of jail free card sometimes.
Though the attacker doesn’t sound like somebody who needs mental institution care, maybe out patient care, but not a mental facility care. He is just like a lot of Americans who kill at the drop of a hat over some minor perceived slight.

Only 14 years for attempted murder? He should get no less than life in prison because that poor girl is very lucky to be alive.

People like this, who are obsessed with idols/singers/voice actors, etc are one of the things that are wrong with the world. May he rot in prison and then some.

What the hell? That sentence is WAY too lenient for the viciousness of the crime....unless they stock the prison with Mayu Tomita fans.

Tomohiro will be 42 years of age by the time he's let out, so his life is pretty much in shambles. I'm fine with prisoners getting some sort of mental help so long as they stay in their prison cell.
Nevertheless, it is pretty sad that Mayu-san's singing career has been ruined all because of a knife-wielding madman.
