This is a result we can all applaud. I await Your Name and A Silent Voice equally, so I am most contented that both films were recognised in the categories of best director and best theatrical work respectively.

Don't care about Yuri on Ice, that show to me is a massive waste of potential. However I am very glad A Silent Voice got recognized. Definitely KyoAni's best work.

I assume Yoshida's win for best script was for her adaptation of A Silent Voice. I mean, compared to the rest of her 2016 output (HaruChika, Aokana, Cheer Boys, and High School Fleet) it's the only one that really has "award winning" stamped on it. Regardless, she's one of my favorite anime screenwriters, so I'm happy to see her get the recognition.

I'm so happy for Yuri on Ice! Showing that this show isn't just popular, it's a legitimately quality series that deserves the hype. And congrats to Tadashi Hiramatsu for his work on the series being honored as well.

Good for YOI no surprise, But Silent Voice winning over Your Name? what...
At least Shinkai definitely deserves the best director award.
