I like how the story atmosphere is likely approaching a lighter one than what DBZ has become. More to that joking and messing around side of Akira Toriyama.

Which should be an error. What make DBZ so huge was the seriousness of the story, not the jokes and comedy of Dragon Ball.
A similar approach was taken initially with GT which proved an error before returning to the seriousness. There were some light hearted instances in DBZ as well like the ones described but the comedy should be balanced and kept to a normal to low level just as the original DBZ, this new series should follow the same formula.

Based on his outfit in the trailer and the description of the first episode here, it looks like it will be set some time before the 2008 special. That's the same outfit he wore at the start of the special where he worked as a radish farmer. If so, the first few episodes will be set two years before they meet Beerus as the special took place two years after Buu's defeat while BoG took place four years after.
I guess the first arc will just be there to set the tone for the series and will be used to tie the 2008 special and the new movies together. Maybe the next arc, will take place between BoG and Resurrection F and will show how Vegeta and Goku got their new forms.

I don't think that'll be the case. It is not DBZ, it doesn't have to be like DBZ. What DBGT did was just those 'lighthearted anime adventure'. Not 'Toriyama messing around'.
If you read Toriyama's other works in that 'messing around' category, his jokes are different, it has distinct feel. He has his 'signatures' when he's messing around with the story. Like Rumiko Takahashi and her works, for example.
Well at least, that's just me being optimistic. Still, like I said, to me DB Super doesn't have to follow DBZ or any DB reiteration, if it's something entirely new just with Dragon Ball characters, I'm in.

And I think it HAS to be like DBZ, Why was DBZ as epic as it was? Serious story totally different from light-hearted comedic adventure-story of dragon ball, epic villains, epic battles.
While its ok to combine some comedy here and there, if it will be the forced lame comedy a la Battle of Gods it will be in trouble in no time, sure it was a huge sucess because it was a movie and it was the first animated DB work after so long but the movie helmet by toriyama had just way too much comedy, and lame to boot, vegeta was rendered almost retarded, lame fight as well, lame transformation as well. As huge DBZ fan as I am it was objectively a lame movie and I hope SUPER does not try to follow the same formula with too much forced comedy making beloved characters look as pathetic and lame as poor vegeta in BoG.
It needs to go back to the epicness which is what most will be wishing from more DB that we all came to love, and that was the Z iteration not the formula of the DB one which was good, yes, but DBZ took the series to the spotlight worldwide for a reason.

Nice. I was afraid it would be something dire about a new enemy even stronger than Buu, so I'm very happy to see that they're gonna mess around and have fun for a bit instead. I love DBZ, but the reason I had such a good time with the "Battle of the Gods" movie was the goofing around with old friends parts (and the funnier Beerus bits).

Thank goodness Goten and Trunks appear to be returning to their usual fighting outfits too. I was worried they were just gonna remain in their casual clothes like in BoG, and that teaser trailer

The wording makes it seem like they will be the main characters this time.

One thing, though, that I'm not happy with, is the animation. It looks like it's going to be that stiff animation toei always do with modern DBZ work (with the exception of the two new movies). The look/art is nice....but yeah, the motions look really stiff imo

The concept of funny into seriousness is comparable to real life: That is, when you reach your teens to young adult life, you realize that you have to be more serious and mature. The more mature you are, it's arguable the more you realize how serious and dark life really is.
