I can't say that I'm too optimistic about this, as there can be consequences to getting into the industry too early. And seeing as her father introduced her to the group and all that, I see who is trying to pull the strings here. I wish her success but also hope that she is careful with her career too.

Poor Maria, she's going into the lion's den, AKB48 is no place for a little girl and she's going to be terrified of the fans, remember these are the same fans who will say they fapped to the idols when they meet them at a handshaking event. She should bail while she still can, because once the tyrants make her sign the contract, goodbye pursuit of happiness, and welcome to crapsaccrine hell. Shame on the parents, the world of idols is not for children whatsoever.

I completely agree Hoppy the idol is not a place for children at all. She needs to leave now for her own good.

There are lots of girls who join the idol industry since elementary school, many of which are in the Hello! Project. Idol industry ain't a bad place for kids. But just like anywhere in the world there are those messed up people who would do crazy stuff that paints bad image to the whole industry. That's all.

Kids should be kids. Trying to have an career, and an idol career with ceaseless marketing, exhausting hours, fan pandering, and absence of privacy takes away that in a heartbeat. Hidden under the guise of singing and dancing...I don't agree it could ever be worth what she will sacrifice in return.
Edit: But if she makes that choice, hopefully it will be her making it, as much as an eleven-year-old can. |

In AKB0048, Shinonome Sonata is ten when the show begins and eleven during the second season. I guess reality is catching up to fiction.

Wait, I thought there was some law preventing children from taking jobs until they were 13.

Never mind. Guess it's totally legal to |

I agree because I think she should do this after finishing high school. |

Ah, yes...Sonata Shinonome from AKB0048 comes to mind...
It seems that the show is starting to match reality in this case. |

I think she's too young to do this. But that said, is this really any different from the kids that are (or "were" in some cases) put into Olympic sports like gymnastics and figure skating?
Dominique Moceanu was put on the US national team at age 10, and competed at the olympics at 14 years old (rules changes have since raised the "minimum age" to 16). The Koreans & the Chinese have fielded several olympians of questionable age even after the institution of the rule. |

People forget that the 48 family consist of 300+ (maybe 400 soon) members, with only the top 10% being popular and having lots of work. Unless she can become the top 10%, for which then you will know she's more than suitable to become an idol, you don't have to worry about things like overworking, being stalked by media, have crazy fans etc.

That law reeks of corporate tyranny by agencies and needs the exceptions to be removed or changed to certain family businesses, I'd rather have them working at a family bakery, a market, or some other eatery than be an idol. |

Am I the only one who immediately thought she would make it, if only due to being a lolita... You know how some japanese fans think.
I know there's a fan out there thinking something along the lines of: "Finally I can get close to a loli without getting arrested" |
