Good pick up. Finished this a few weeks ago and thought it was a rather amusing read with the way the story was constructed with its characters.

Wau! I never thought somebody would ever license this. But that's cool, it's a good work full of interesting biologic and bioetic themes mixed with a dark funny relaxed tone and going full-force over the top in all body horror you can imagine. You need to have a good stomach and put your moral codes in your closet though.
It has the most misleading and untrue covers you'll ever see for a series though, the series itself has no this sexual fanservice.

Kinda shocked it took this long to get licensed.

Are Seven Seas' translations any good, though? I'll stick with the scans if I have random honorifics and stilted dialogue to look forward to. (The scans will have those, too, but at least I won't have to pay for them.)
And while we're on the subject, why hasn't anyone picked up Liar Game yet?

I've read D-Frag!, Magical Girl Apocalypse and Devils & Realist from them and have found the translations to be pretty good. I'm pretty sure Devils & Realist didn't have honourifics as it is set in England but I can't remember whether or not the other two did.

I mean, no one's forcing you to spend money on anything, but it's kinda silly to start coming up with reasons why not to buy the product and stick to the stuff you can download for free.
Anime/manga fans have a bad habit of not buying what they claim to be passionate about.

Roughly $20 for an omnibus I think is a really great price.

I'm sorry, I've just been burned too often by awful, awful manga translations. Tokyopop was utter garbage towards the end and Viz has ended up almost as bad.
Read a couple volumes of the Trigun manga (one of the absolute worst things I have ever paid money for) and you'll see where I'm coming from.

Was really excited, then I saw word omnibus. There will never be omnibus on my shelf.
It's too bad, since Franken Fran is pretty awesome series.

Tokyopop's gone (except in Germany and occasional volumes of Hetalia). Not sure what your issue with Viz is--they seem to have slightly different translation styles between the Shonen Jump and collected volumes, and between Shonen Jump/Sunday, Shojo Beat, and the more upscale Viz Signature. They've also changed over the years (they used to keep sound effects as is with translated end notes, now they tend to change the katakana to English) , but over all their translations are excellent.

I think that SevenSeas follows a rule of keeping -san/chan/etc in Japanese settings (Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer), and adapting/dropping them in western/fantasy settings where it wouldn't make sense (Ancient Magus Bride).
Most of Tokyopop's later translations that I read were just fine, and some were great (a few of the people who worked for them are still doing great work for other publishers) so it really depends on the individual translator/adapter/editor in charge: "utter garbage towards the end" is far too generalized to be at all fair.
And finally, I'll never understand the vehement anti-omnibus stance. Often it's the only way to publish a series profitably. For a reader, it can mean less wait to get the whole series: SS is publishing a new Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer omnibus every three months, which is about the same pace they release single volumes of other series, so it works out to getting the whole series in half the time, and even at a lower cost for the amount of content (compare $19-20 omnibus to $12-13 single).
