Well, maybe not, but I was wondering if it'd be possible to add a link to an 'official' forum thread from each entry in the anime encyclopedia? That way people would instantly know where to discuss it.
For example I've just watched Full Metal Panic but can't find the 'proper' thread for it anywhere, and any threads I do find are about TSR anyway which I haven't seen. Just thought it'd be a neat addition to quickly rate the anime (how do you change ratings btw? I rated FLCL incorrectly!) and then easily and quickly discuss it |

Moving this to the encyclopedia forum as that's a more fitting venue for this topic.

Have you checked out this thread? While there's no "official" Full Metal Panic! discussion thread, there have been many threads made for FMP, and I'm sure the moderators wouldn't mind if you revived the newest one out of them with a constructive post. There are currently I believe 4 threads on the original, 2 threads on Fumoffu, 5 threads on TSR, and 4 threads pertaining to the general franchise. As for your idea to add links to the respective discussion threads in the encycopedia entires for titles, I like the idea, but I see some potential problems with it. 1) It would be a lot of work. The staff would have to search all 25724523572 threads existing in this forum and input the links to respective encyclopedia entries. Perhaps if there was a less manual way to do it it wouldn't be terribly difficult, but if they were to do what I have to do for the All Discussions! thread, it would take forever. 2) ANN traditionally hasn't been run this way. Other forums I've been to have subfora for new titles, older titles, popular titles, subfora for each of those, and the mods create mostly all the threads in all of the respective titles. They also have a running policy of locking any threads discussing a series in which a discussion thread already exists, thus leaving each title with exactly one forum or discussion thread. I like the way it's run as it promotes organized discussion, but ANN is completely different and not particularly geared towards series-specific discussion, hence, since 2002 if there hasn't been recent discussion on a particular series you are free to make a new thread on it. Thus, until recently (in which the mods are trying to keep discussion of newer series down to one thread per series), there've been many threads pertaining to titles and no "official threads". I suppose they could declare one of them "official", but that'd be like denying the existence of the other threads. And I think the All Discussions thread is enough to cover this problem. Also the encyclopedia staff seems to have enough to work on as it stands.
1) Go here (you can access it by going to the "My Anime" tab on the very right, and then clicking the My Anime link below. 2) You'll see boxes next to each title you have rated. Check the box next to the title that you want to change the rating of (FLCL in your case). 3) Click the Rate button on the top of all the boxes on the top-left corner of the "table". 4) Change the rating, and then click Save those Ratings. |

Regarding the recent series, I think that's more because recent series are more likely to have recent discussions. If everyone stopped talking about a series for six months or something, I'm sure a new thread would be acceptable. The general rule for any threads, although not explicitly stated as such, is that if there's a recent thread for a topic, don't make a new thread. Otherwise, go for it (as long as it conforms to the official forum rules). |

Many thanks for the reply and for moving it into a more appropriate category
I agree that it would be a lot of work, but there are ways around that; you could automatically add a forum thread per each new anime and just link it in, which would mean no extra work for the mods, and the addition of previous anime's could just be done by users, they select the forum URL and the mod approves it. I agree with you about sub fora [ nice word by the way, I like it! ] and the like, but I do think having one thread per anime would be ace. Not necessarily limit it to just that one thread, but at least returning users or people in the same position as myself can quickly access it and leave comments about it, discuss it with others and read other people's opinions etc. ... however, that thread you linked to pretty much does a lot of this anyway which is nice, many thanks for that, I somehow managed to overlook it before, so I've bookmarked it now and will be sure to check it in future. Also a huge thanks for telling me how to change my rating for FLCL! |
