Looks like they didn't really update the character designs. I was expecting a more modernized look to the characters, so it's cool seeing it has a sort of retro look. Looking forward to this.

I always assumed that Ushio & Tora was an inspiration for Tenchi Muyo... an ancient ancestor traps a demon in the basement, the main character frees it, they go on wild and crazy adventures together...
Of course, Tenchi Muyo's biggest change was that the demon was a sexy lady, while Tora... isn't.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The way they modernized Parasyte felt like it was missing something to previous fans atleast

I'm more concerned about modern younger viewers. Could they accept such designs? Or does the older design choice suggest the animators intended to appeal to older fans?

Well, if the creator approves how can we complain. I cannot wait until this starts. So is the guy at the top Ushio's old man? The one he's constantly beating on. I often wonder why that was a thing back during the day, and still pops up today. It's the infamous "I'm so mad at at dad, and he's a stupid old man, but we have this love hate relationship" trope.
