How come you didn't review the UK version of Cowboy Bebop Blu-Ray last year?

i haven't actually gotten around to watching this series yet, apparently i've been living under a rock.
Looks like the Amazon exclusive version is sold out; i'm heavily considering ordering the Funimation one. Bebop is supposed to be on the same level as Trigun, right? I really liked Trigun, so.... |

In a Facebook or Twitter post (can't remember), they've stated that they won't be printing any more of the limited editions. You can still buy the regular edition, however.
EDIT: I had thought about for a while getting the Funi LE (which I preferred over the Amazon version), but decided not to go with it. I gave Cowboy Bebop high grades when I saw it several years ago, but neither do I consider a series that I really wanted to collect a LE for. It's a great series that I enjoyed, but not a personal fave. The episode with the clown guy, however, was probably one of the hardest-hitting episodes I've seen. The over/under for the time it'll take me to regret not buying either collector's edition and pay the mark-up for one of them is two years...technically, my brother-in-law has the Bandai release...
I'm just relieved it's back in the market... |

Unflinchingly is the right word Hope. So is episode 25/26 the best anime ending ever ? The Parasyte finale could give Bebop´s end a runs for its money if it sticks to the manga and LoGH/Trigun had a crazy good ones too.
I further recommend to look up the "original ending" named: Session XX: Mish-Mash Blues. Just Spikes philosophical discussion about "Hamburger Spike" and how food makes you what you are is fascinating. Thank god the show got a second life but the movie rights situation is a bit sad. That one makes the show "complete" to me. |

Yes, Merxamers, that is the regular edition.
Here's a post that shows the 3 different editions (2 of them limited - the Funimation Exclusive was limited to 2,500 copies and the Amazon Exclusive was limited to 10,000 copies). |

Bebop is generally considered to be in a league of its own. Trigun is a rather generic series in comparison, IMO. There are some themes in common, but ultimately Bebop is an entirely different beast with a much deeper experience. Not to say that you'd necessarily enjoy it more, as I can't venture a guess as to what your own subjective experience will be. I made sure to pick up both LEs, as I knew I'd regret it if I hadn't. =/ I'll proudly display them next to the original Perfect Sessions boxset (and every other US release), and not at all feel self-conscious about how much I've spent on the series over the years. I mean, it's Bebop. |

I think you'd get a lot of push-back on that, as I have heard quite a few people over the years express dissatisfaction with CB's ending. I always thought it was merely good, though my estimation of it is raising a bit in light of Hope's explanation of it here. However, I still wouldn't put it ahead of the endings for series like Princess Tutu or Gunbuster. |

Glad to hear that the HD video and transfer is of high quality. I considered getting the Amazon exclusive, but in the end was not that appealing to me. I will stick with the regular BD version because, after all, the most important thing is the anime content.
I love Cowboy Bebop, but the ending is the only thing I did not love. I think it is too open-ended just for the sake of it. It has a sort of poetic quality, but Spike's decision was not smart. The angry scene between Spike and Faye (just before he runs to his death) seemed out of character for both of them. They were hints that maybe they loved each other, but nothing concrete was really developed. And then, boom, that lovers' quarrel scene comes out of left field. I actually like and personally identify more with Trigun than Cowboy Bebop. I love both of them deeply, but yeah. That said, Bebop is easily the better series from both a production and narrative standpoint. So Bebop is superior, but I liked Trigun more, if that makes sense. They're both good.

For whatever reason, I never saw Cowboy Bebop when I was a kid.
After I got back into the anime fandom around middle school, I've heard for years how awesome Cowboy Bebop was, and finally got a chance to watch the whole series. Honestly... I thought the series was just okay. I think a big part of it is because 1) I'm not really a fan of the episodic shows to begin with (where each episode is its own stand a lone story) and 2) After being told for years and years that CB was literally the greatest anime ever, my expectations are incredibly high. And now that I've finally saw the series, I'm honestly a little sick of everyone talking about the show. I'm at a point where I don't want to hear anyone talk about the show ever again. Do I hate the show? No, I don't. There wasn't anything "bad" about the show that I could find, I just think that the hype kind of ruined the show for me. Maybe it's one of those things where I'll love the show when I see it again years and years later. But for right now, I'm putting "Cowboy Bebop" in my pile of "Highly-critically acclaimed shows I've seen, but never want to see again" along with Wolf's Rain and Revolutionary Girl Utena. |
