I wish to list the Chinese titles for anime, but Chinese is not in the drop-down list.
Eg, "火影忍者" is the licensed chinese name for Naruto while "死神" is the licensed chinese name for Bleach. |

Ok, I read the thread, but still, every dialect/branch of the Chinese language use the same characters(except that some places use traditional while others use simplified) but different pronunciations. And if ANN supports Japanese characters, it is guaranteed to have Chinese support too. As for the Cantonese thing, the drop down list can have something like 'Chinese - Mandarin' and 'Chinese - Cantonese'.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_Mandarin Mandarin is far more popular and universal than any other dialect though. |

My original response to this has unfortunately been lost.
When the exncyclopedia was originally made, it was made with one market in mind; North America. The"English" version was to be the North Maerican Version, and the "Japanese" version was to be the original. Later we decided that it couldn't hurt to allow the addition of information in other languages. Unfortunately, due to the fact that language and regional version are interchangeable in the encyclopedia, it doesn't work very well with certain cases, particularly languages like Spanish and Chinese, where the language is used in multiple markets and there could be multiple different versions of a title in the same language. A future encyclopedia upgrade will correct this issue. Until that time, we aren't allowing any more languages in the encyclopedia, particularly troublesome languages like Chinese (with all the different chinese dialects, and regions). -t |
