I tend to like anime series with 13 26 or 52 most.

although with 13 eps you might get a condensed story of the manga like the case with gravitation instead of the full story. but it goes straight to the good points with no filler.

26 is cool and goes to the point like 13 eps. has little filler and has more of the manga story unless its an anime that strays from that.

52 eps are good. especially in the case with fullmetal alchemist or eureka 7. you have plots, subplots and comedy episodes anf maybe filler depends on whos doing it.

100 PLUS EPS I CANT WATCH FOREVER. i lose interest after a while. i end up only tuning in on good anticipated episodes like with inuyasha or whenever like i do ranma, bleach, urusei yatsura...etc.

anyone else has that prob with long series. i seem to be the only one of my friends who does. it must be rare.

Personally, I tend to think that series warranting more than 52 episodes are rare. Inuyasha is a prime example of a series whose ranking has dropped in my eyes considerably because it's just been dragged out too long. The same as with live action, the team has to have a sense of when the story has been told and there's nothing more to say, and when it's better to end things on top instead of a slow, painful death that strips series of their reputation for quality. Not that anime isn't also full of one or two season manga-based series that could have gone on for another one or two seasons.

Yes, the Simpsons is an example of a long series done right. I saw an interview once where the team attributed it's success to the fact that it branched out to cover the whole town of Springfield, which dramatically increased the stories they could tell as opposed to what they could have done if they had stuck with only the family.

My fave series, Captain Tsubasa has 226 chapters total, since the first series was the longest one (128 chapters), and the second and third ones are remakes of the first one plus new chapters, situations and further into the future.

It doesn't hold a candle to Naruto or Meitantei Conan, I guess, but popular as it is in Latin America, it's a pretty long saga.

It depends on the series and who is making it. For instance I feel Bee Train should be banned from making any series longer than 13 episodes (contrast the pacing of .hack//UDEDEN with .hack//SIGN, Noir and Madlax)

the one series that i like thats really long or will be over 100 eps is Bleach, the fillers for it are decent. naruto sucks because of those fillers but it might get interesting since i dont read the manga so i have no clue what happens when the fillers end, and inuyasha just pisses me off because its ridiculously long, only thing that i thought was good from inuyasha was movie 3.

I tend to love them all in a sort of way. 13 or 26 episode series are easier to watch in fewer sittings and easier to buy on DVD. For a 100+ episode series you can miss an episode and easily jump in again, and with shows like Case Closed, or The Simpsons, I can easily watch an episode here and there 'til the end of time! But I would give the edge to 52. They last long enough to get you emotionally attached, but I also want to actually see the ending too (the two shows above are examples of exceptions though)!

I definitely prefer 12/13 and 24/26 episode series.

The only drawback to the 12/13 episode format is that the story is occasionally rushed, or the characters aren’t developed as well as they should be, since there’s limited time to do it. On the positive side though, a 12/13 episode series requires little time commitment, since it’s shorter, so I’m probably more likely to watch it than I would be a longer series. Also, with less time to do things, the story moves along at a good pace, and each episode is usually used for all it’s worth.

With 24/26 episode series, a series can begin to drag a little in the middle or end, or since there’s more time, the beginning can be slow, with as much as half the series being devoted to setting up the plot or introducing characters. However, with the extra episodes that a 12/13 episode series doesn’t have, the plot is allowed to be more complex, and the characters, even the supporting characters who are often ignored in shorter series, usually get more development.

Because both lengths have about equal pros and cons in my book, I like them about equally.

Any longer than 26, and I lose interest pretty quickly. The longer it goes, the more I begin to dislike it, until watching it almost becomes a chore. Also, filler becomes a problem in longer series, and 90% of filler is unentertaining.

Of course, there are exceptions. There are plenty of series that have run past 26 episodes to 52, or even 100+, and have remained good throughout. It can be done, but it’s rare.

Of course, The Simpsons can air until it's 1,000 episodes long for all I care. I’d still watch it. Anime smile + sweatdrop But we're talking anime here, right?

13 and 26 eps can't really cover most manga's story.
that's why there are many bad anime whne compare to the manga itself.
there are just too many long manga.

naruto forget about the fillers is the same as the manga for most part, but maybe too long for some people. again, i'm not talking about the fillers.

Ichigo 100% of example only have 13 eps. most people think the anime sucks, but the manga is very good to them.

it may not have anything to do with ep numbers.
I just like more anime that have 50+ or 100+ eps than shorter one.

The longer one normally is more popular too.
I’m talking about popularity it has nothing to with good or bad anime. you may think DBZ or Saint Seiya is a bad anime, but they are or were very popular.

isn't inuyasha pretty much as long as naruto is or is going to be? espicially considering naruto has not finished.

as far as length, it depends on the anime. some are better told in a short series while others focus on long plots (sometimes).

Inuyasha ended at 167 episodes, while Naruto is currently at over 200, and still airing, so Naruto is quite a bit longer.

As a general rule, I tend to prefer ~13ep series. When they're done right they can be fully focused on the story and give good, steady progression and character development. Not that longer series can't achieve this but it seems to be rarer, exponentially decreasing by the number of episodes a series has. For example, the only >52eps show I can think of that I personally thought was especially good was Monster, whereas when you get down to ~13eps you get series like Haibane Renmei, SHnY, Boogiepop, Air, etc., all of which I think are excellent.
I won't not watch a show because it goes on longer, I'll still give them a chance. That I prefer 13ep series is more of an observation. Wink
