Did Vinland Saga just get delayed?

I had Vinland Saga 1 (the first official English volume) ordered on Amazon and I got a notification that the order was delayed. I think it was supposed to ship on October 8th, but not it doesn't have a date at all.

Furthermore, the item I ordered apparently no longer exists on Amazon. I think what I ordered was the hardcover, but now only the kindle edition shows up as being sold by Amazon, with all others being from 3rd party sellers (the one I ordered was straight from Amazon).

Did anybody else order Vinland Saga from anywhere only to see it delayed?

Ordered on Rightstuf. It says "Reserved For Your Order" when I look at the order status and "More Arriving Soon" when I look at the item page itself.

I'll choose to be an optimist and think that there was a lot more interest in Vinland Saga than initially expected so they didn't quite have enough copies to ship to everyone. But a delay is definitely possible as well. Hopefully a TRSI rep or someone else close can give further information.

I pre-ordered my copy months ago from the Book Depository and it arrived at my door here in Australia yesterday. So some people have definitely received copies. As Megiddo suggested it's probably a case of demand outstripping supply.

Most recent post from Kodansha on the subject still says the 8th.

[edit] Did an ask on Kodansha's tumblr to find out if they know what's going on, I'll post the response once I get it.

The reason I ordered from Amazon was because they had the hardcover for $10 (half-off).

Anyway, it's on store shelves so it definitely wasn't delayed (though my local comic shop didn't get it).

I see. So TRSI is probably just holding onto mine until it can ship it with the Girls und Panzer BD collection that I ordered along with it then.

According to Kodansha's twitter, it was delayed (and not for quality issues), but it looks like some copies had already been mailed out, because B&N and other stores have it for sale already.

I've had mine preordered for 6 months, if there are copies out and about then it is inexcusable to have them on storeshelves but not to the people who actually preordered it.

^ We don't know why there was a delay. Speculation is that they may not have received a full shipment, and that part of it was already sent out before they realized there wasn't enough to fill all orders.

That being said, Kodansha doesn't know who has pre-orders and who doesn't. Sure, Amazon and Right Stuf are obviously going to have them, but they don't know how many, and even if they got a partial shipment, there's no guarantee that your reservation would have gotten one. The one problem I have with RS, is waiting over a month for pre-ordered books that have come out, for no apparent reason.

This isn't a case like my personal experience with the Serenity movie and Suncoast. I'd pre-ordered it, they didn't receive enough copies for their pre-orders. So instead of going down the list and giving them to pre-orders in the order they'd reserved, they decided to wait for their second shipment for pre-orders, and put what they had on the shelf.

I had a legitimate reason to be beefed with the store. I pre-ordered to have guarantee of having a copy. They had no right to be selling it on the shelf before the pre-orders had even been notified that the movie was out (I'd just happened to see it, working in the same mall). But my beef was with the store, not the company.

If the movie studio had delayed the movie because of a shortage (or whatever), and the store at the not-so-local mall had it, and not the store I pre-ordered from, then I'd've just gone over, picked it up, and cancelled my pre-order. Not gotten mad at the movie studio.

Yet, by curious contrast, TRSI shipped mine out yesterday.

I have no idea what the significance of this is.

I received my order from Rightstuf last week. Very happy with everything. Very cool that a previously unpublished short by Yukimura about the Shinsengumi also made it in.

It's really weird. You're still able to pre-order volumes 2 and 3 on amazon, but I'm wondering if I should cancel those pre-orders and place them with Rightstuf instead.

It seems like if it were a simple issue of supply and demand that they could simply push forward the release date? If it sold that well it seems like the series could have another print run?

I was really disappointed with the whole deal. Like other posters, I pre-ordered my copy months ago.
