I've only seen the 2 most recent episodes of this series that have aired on IFC and the review I read on this site didn't really answer my question, so I will ask here.
Is Samurai 7 mostly a mecha series? I've only seen the two most recently aired episodes, as said before, as well as the few trailers on other DVDs I own, so I am not sure. The previews I've seen showed many mech battles, but the episodes I've seen only showed the mechs, with no mech battles, so I am slightly confused.
Is Samurai 7 primarily a mecha, or are the mechs not very important to the story? I ask only because I am sick of Mechs in general and want to know if Samurai 7 is worth checking out regardless of my prejudice. NOTE: mechs are NOT an automatic ban, I also like Burst Angel, Evangelion and Escaflowne, just not series' that focus entirely on the mechs.
Thanks in advance....

There are some serious badass mechas in Samurai 7, but they're certainly not the focus of the series. If you like S7 so far, you should definitely continue following it. The mechas that you see in the opening of the very first episode, they are what you'll be seeing again in various forms. If you've seen Kurosawa's original film, the mechas here take the place of the bandits. Hmm, dunno which episodes you're referring to, don't want to slip you any spoilers.. [only mild spoilers ahead, but still, if you are too early in the series, stop reading] The mechas turn out to be former samurais who gave up their human bodies for mechanical ones. The real samurai, however, don't have very warm feelings toward their mechanical adversaries.. I believe the mechas mainly figure as cannon fodder for the real samurai

Well, I am unsure about how far into the series those episodes were myself, they had just decided on the 5th samurai and went through that underground colony. Sorry, but that's about all I can describe about it at the time. Anyone know about where in the series this one was?

It's not too terribly far into the series. Only about episode 8 or thereabouts.

As a fan of Kurosawa's classic, I've been happy with the series so far. It's just different enough to make watching it worthwhile.
The preview of the next episode looks interesting. If some sparks fly between Kirara and Kyuzo as seemed implied, I wonder how it's going to affect Katsushiro - especially if Kyuzo ends up being what he was to him in the original...

yeah, last Saturday's episode sold me I think. THe fact that they fought the mechs without using mechs at first struck me as ridiculous, but as the fights went on I changed my mind. I may start collecting this series, after my financial state is fixed and I get a couple other anime's I've been planning to get that is.
